I'm using these:

Amazon - 50W LED Flood Light 6000K White Light, IP66 Waterproof Outdoor Floodlight

I put one on each side of my SGFC.  Most of the heat is vented from the back and they're not as warm as my daylight CFL.  They're really bright with a 6000K spectrum.

In that case, I'll go with LEDs that'll make the setup much easier.

According to very limited research fungi typically respond to only blue light and some part of the UV band...

So it makes sense that people suggest very cold (blue-heavy) spectra like 6500K.

That's interesting.  The indoor LED growlight I've used a couple of times is heavy in the UV range.  I didn't notice any imporvement over other lights.  The one thing I did like about it was having all my hydroponic ghost and scorpion peppers growing next to my shrooms.  Made for a very relaxing environment during the winter to sit and stare at pins grow for hours at a time without blinking, neglecting all my other responsibilities as my skin turned brown from the grow lights.  Wonderful.

As I amended my earlier post:
I should add that there are exceptions like Rhodotus palmatus which require other colors of light and NOT blue, but I don't know of any edible / psychoactive mushrooms which are also an exception like this.

I think if you got browner skin from that UV light it may suggest that it is harmful to your skin and could cause cancer.

Personally I don't spend much time in presence of my blue LED but yes it is UV active too, but I'm not sure how far into the UV band this extends.

Interestingly you can make vitamin D rich mushrooms with UV light but again, I think this has to be done in very controlled and protected ways because those UV wavelengths are harmful and can cause cancer.

I have one of those, the single one with the black case, it's crazy bright indoors.  Running two of those side-by-side seems like major overkill, haha.

Any bulb with a color spectrum of 5000k to 6500k is ideal. Higher the watts the better. Just dont overdo it. They dont need a ton of light.

It may be slightly overkill running two of them I'm not sure, but the 2 pack was $40 and I'll have enough light for a couple mini mono's.

I've done a lot of work with lasers & optics, so I snapped a couple images through my Spectroscope of the frequencies emitted from these 6000K LED's and a 150W equivalent 5500K CFL, and an earlier model LED bulb for comparison.  I'll start a new lighting thread for this but I'll post them here too.

With the CFL spectrum you'll see it emits 3 strong lines and a number of lower energy lines in the blue/violet end of the spectrum.    The 6000K LED emits a much brighter and continuous spectrum rich in blue/violet, blue and green with reasonably strong bands of yellow and red.  The blue/violets are pretty intense down to 430nm.      The images I captured through the Spectroscope say a lot about the quality of these new LED's.

The earlier model LED has very little light of a shorter wavelength than green (approx 530nm)  These older LED's don't seem well suited for cultivation.

150 Watt equivalent (26 Watt) 5500K CFL

50 Watt 6000K LED

For comparison this is the spectrum emitted from an early model 60W equivalent LED.  Almost all the light is above 530nm in wavelength and concentrated in the greens yellows and reds, there's a weak amount of blue light in the 500nm range and no blue/violet in the 450nm range.
