I am so fucking lazy that I found a perfect lazy way to prep WBS.

  • Wash WBS with a drop of dishwashing liquid and lots of hot water.
  • Rinse.
  • Cover with hot tap water 3 inches above surface.
  • Leave it for 12 hours.
  • Drain in siv for 10 mins.
  • Place in the spawn bag.
  • One hand full of dry grains in there too to soak up any excess moisture.
  • PC that shit for 2 hours at 15 psi.

Works well for me and I don't have to fuck about boiling and drying grain, far too lazy for that.
The handfull of dry grains at the end is essential though, otherwise there will be too much surface moisture.

soaking and draining grains is effective but I find drying the entire thing with a towel cloth to be much better than just letting it drain, too much moisture have proven to be really problematic for me,

Agreed excess surface moisture is a disaster, but even though this method is far from scientific, you can dial it in just right after a few tries.
As long as you have enough dry grain in there the moisture all evens out during cooking and you end up with perfect grain.

I use rye mostly.  Rye from a wholesaler that is clean and meant for human consumption...

There is a very simple method for rye that requires no prep.  I use it all the time and have great results with it.  It goes like this...

You put 1 cup of rye in a quart jar, add 2/3 to 3/4 cup of water, and 1/2 tsp gypsum and calcium carbonate if you have it...(those 2 are not necessary)

You can let it sit for a day if you are into germinating endospores, otherwise you can PC it right away.  I like a 90 min PC cycle.

When done this way, the rye berries come out of the pressure cooker slightly over-saturated on the bottom of the jar, getting dryer and dryer as they get higher, to the top where they are slightly too dry.

This ends up being no problem as long you do your transfers without delay then give them a good shake to distribute the grains evenly.  The moisture evens out pretty quick.

Fooman wbs prep.

I use wild Finch seed though but it's expensive compared to dirty wbs, but it's super clean.

Bring water to boil in pressure cooker, I use about 4-5 inches of water, once boiled, remove from burner, add wbs, put on lid, wait 1 hour, rinse well, load jars, pressure cooker jars.

Works like a charm for me, I've used this method for 100's of jars at this point

This works great for WBS. While I'm boiling water on the stove I wash the crap out of the WBS like 15 times or more bc MOST WBS is super dirty. Once the water is boiling I pour it over the WBS. I wait 45 min then check it. Then pour it in a strainer and let it sit for about 10 min until it's no longer dripping any water. (I actually take a smaller strainer to scoop it up to make sure there's no dripping water.) Then load it up in the jars still wet, it will cook more in the PC. Sometimes I do a 12-16 hour soak before I pour the boiling water over it if I have the time or planned ahead. I always PC for 60 min at 15psi for wbs and grains I find this works great for me

Grains - u can also do these just like above (u will get less burst grains this way) the other way i like to prep them is to boil them for about 30 min stirring it and checking it every few minutes until u are used to ur grains. Then I pour it in the strainer until its not dripping water anymore then load them up wet. good luck!

Ps I know plenty of ppl that do the tissue test but every time I do it gets too dry on me. I never dry more then 20 minutes now if that! Normally 10ish minutes is good for me.

I clean and rinse the WBS, then soak with scalding water for 2 hours, then drain, then pour scalding water on them right before I put on the stove until it simmers, then i put in a strainer, wait 2 hours, then load in jars and in the pressure cooker for 2 hours.

DONE.

I like preparing my grains a touch under hydrated so I can load them into jars wet
(not dripping wet). Drying grains is messy and kind of a pain in the ass imo.

I used to sterilize 90mins @ 15psi due to economical reasons but I find bacteria was still a problem at that point. I use grains used for livestock feeds, it might also be the culprit but once I shifted to 120mins @ 20psi, Im more confident when I take them out of the pc, and contaminations lessen, too. Most pro-cultivator in here would advise otherwise but whatever works, works.

I rub my grains with towel CLOTH(as opposed to paper towels) just to make sure I get all the excess moisture out.

Makes sense its why i dont soak wbs, it does nothing for me an if u miss a day it'll be stankaye.
It makes me feel like a piece of shit if i waste grains to ...

I boil let cool while stirring so as not to burst grain, heat let cool an repeat untill white millet starts to hydrate(all other grains have been hydrated by then).

Im moving to oats for a uniform procedure. I really like the diverse diet wbs gives though...
