What is this stuff on my cakes?

Instead of my cakes being white on the top it has this tan stuff. It breaks up and looks like small crumbs and it's a 1mm layer only on the top of the cake. It smells kinda like dirty feet. I've gotten this every time I've done the pf tek, anyone know what it might be?
It's also extremely dry where I live if that helps. Also after redunking the smell goes away and shows back up in a few days of being in the FC.

It looks like that cake isn’t fully colonized to me, if you’re smelling something like that there’s a good chance it’s bacterial contamination. Was the jar 100% colonized before you birthed it?

Yeah they were 100% colonized and I let them consolidate for about a week. When I birthed them the 1/4 inch of "dry" verm closest to the substrate was very wet. I wonder if this had anything to do with it.
This time when making the brf mixture I tried going to field capacity, but probably went a little over. Last time I used the 2:1:1 ratio and the same thing happened.

Can't tell from that pic alone. Post some more with different angles, closer up if ya can. That will give everyone a better idea of what it might be.
Anything besides the smell of fresh mushrooms is generally a bad sign though.
