Vermiculite

What vermiculite is best to use for BRF?
I bought mine from The Garden Center but I’m looking to buy some online. The type I bought were very small chunks but I think I should order some that are larger in size for the mycelium.
Can someone link me to an online shop of the kind works best?
Any suggestions?

Should I use coarse vermiculite? I’ve never tried it, always used the fine dusty corporate substance.

Verm is verm, there is course and fine. Not much more to it than that. Some people like course some like fine. I use course (small chunks) and like it and fine is more of a powder.
I think more people use the fine though, I never noticed much difference and the course is more available in my area.

Only difference I believe is that one can hold more water than the other, so always be sure to check your field capacity! Otherwise it's simply a matter of preference and availability.

I've used both side by side and never noticed a difference. If you go to an "indoor grow shop" you can usually get a huge bag for pretty cheap.
Also I use mine for my substrate and casing mix. So probably depends what your using it for.

100%. Fine, medium and coarse verm hold different amounts of water. I personally prefer medium.
As always, recipes are guidelines. You must adjust your water content to find your specific field capacity, erring on the side of dry substrates over wet substrates.

I don’t believe the coarse verm will be work too beneficial for the dry verm layer.

I've used coarse in all my grows. For BRF and in my CVG. I've never had any problems with moisture content or using it as the barrier.

No, it's 5. Exactly as it states, using 1/2 pint jars. Works out perfectly for me, everytime.

Ye OK then What I do is just 2 parts verm 1 part water 1 part BRF (making shore the "part" is equal to what ever volume your jar is) And that makes 4 jars what ever the volume is Also you don't need to use half pint jars . . .you don't even have to use jars.

Gotcha, I gave directions for 1/2 pint jars thinking that's the standard for BRF cakes. I think if ya go bigger you're just increasing the risk of stalling and contams.
Never tried BRF in anything else. If I were to do anything else, it will be grains in jars(I'm getn close!). I Dont see the point in BRF after clean cultures, unless ya just wanna give somn a shot? I dunno tho, I'm still a noob.
