It got damaged and now it's trying to callus.

Looks ok for me, I don't see any mold or rot.

Keep it in a dry and well ventilated area untill the damaged spot is dried /callused well.
The plant won't die. It will continue to grow from it's tip, or grow some new pups from the tip during the next season.
Is the cactus planted in a pot? Looks pretty young still, with it's small diameter and tiny spines..
Still needs to grow a few years, it's way too young for consumption. How tall is it?

Would it be best to cut the top for more pups to grow?? I am interested in this because a few slugs damaged a couple of my san pedro's a little like this.

ya I would bring it inside out of direct sunlight and cut the top off and Let it callous or its going to grow messed up and want to fall over.

Ive been having MAJOR slug issues with not only my mushroom patches but my garden,  trees and everything.  Just fyi in the future i put organic slug baits all over the fucking place and dusted everything with diatomaceous earth (food grade fresh water)  it got rid of the fuckers in a day. Also the diatomaceous earth got rid of all my fruit flies and their larvae on my weed plants in the garage :wink: great for everything.

Thanks for the heads up yooo :highfive: I was layering some sea salt around the bottom of my plant pots hoping it would help get rid of them pesky things!!

When I cut my cacti I use sulfur powder on the cut ends to keep pathogens like bacteria/fungi off. They always heal up with a thick callous and pump out roots. I've left very damaged sections of cacti in tact they generally heal up if kept dry and dust the wound with sulfur..whichever way you go it will be ok provided you keep it dry & ventilated those are key.
