Quick Question about condensation in mono
    #25603896 - 11/09/18 07:31 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

Have my first Mono going. 60qt. Question is, condensation from the walls of the tub is running down the sides and behind the liner ( liner is not taped to the walls of the tub) Is this ok? Would seem like a water loss for the sub, and potential mold problem.

Second question,I have no condensation on the top of the tub, only the walls- would that mean the top holes of the tub aren't packed tight enough with poly? Top is definitely packed much lighter than the bottom holes.

Don't worry about anything, condensation dripping behind the substrate or behind the liner won't cause problems. Condensation doesn't normally occur on the lid if that's what you mean? Humidity and temp differences between inside and outside of tub will affect how condensation is formed in your tub.

Ny personal belief is that colder mkre dense air on the floor is pushed into the Mono trough the bottom holes, mixes with the warmer air currents created by the warm substrate and eventually the warmer less dense air escapes mostly trough the imperfect seal of the lid and trough the holes in the mono. I think air is coming into the tub and escaping trough all the openings more or less.

If the very humid air inside the tub at substrate level was escaping trough the bottom holes as some theories suggest then I don't think there would be dry rings around the holes all the time. I think the dry rings are from the dry air entering trough the holes. Also if you look at the shape of the dry rings around the holes you see how the dryness extends downward as the colder air is dropping when it meets the warm air.

I'm just speculating of course

Your speculation makes sense

Don't worry about the condensation. It's fine. The water behind the liner won't hurt a thing. It's actually better than it running down onto your sub and pooling around the edges.

And don't worry about no condensation on the lid. You should be worried about no condensation on the myc that's reached the surface of your sub. If there's no condensation on there, then worry about it being too dry.

The amount of condensation on the walls and lid of a tub will change with temp fluctuations. Pay attention to the surface of your sub.

Will do. I cased, live in a very dry area ( 17% in my house currently),'and 9-13% is the norm during winter months, inside and outside the house. Figured a casing will help.
