Alder tree fell on my property, what to do
    #25603481 - 11/09/18 03:55 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

I live in the PNW. I've never made a patch or found cyanescens. I want to strategically use this tree to cultivate some private patches.

A few questions.

Are small but whole limbs of any value? Or primarily just wood chips?

Is the sawdust from cutting rounds good for anything?

If I don't find cyans and cannot make spore slurry/use butts, can I inoculate jars with cyan spores and spawn to chips that way with any chance of success?

ive read of people using the large limbs to cover the bottom of the patch and putting the chips on top of that. My understanding is it would slow the decomposition of the chips and allow the mycelium to colonize it. i believe mixing the saw dust with chips is effective as well. this is not personal experience, as i have yet to start my own patch. next spring.
