i plan on creating some patches this spring. i will be starting the process of learning agar next week. i have spore syringes of these varieties coming in. i have a large pile of maple chips (silver maple specifically). i am wondering if this is a suitable wood to use? alder isnt exactly abundant where i live and i work in arboriculture. so i have access to a tonne of wood chips. my questions are; can i use maple? and what are some other species of tree that will be suitable? i always see alder being  but i cant find any large amounts for a reasonable price.
