Agar preparation question
    #25602849 - 11/09/18 11:08 AM (6 years, 2 months ago)

I haven’t made my own plates before, always bought pre poured plates. I’m still a little confused, I bought telephone brand agar agar. Do I need to add anything to this? If so do you have a recipe, I’ve looked some teks up but am confused on that I actually need.

Malt extract is usually added but there are other acceptable things. If it's your first time doing agar maybe pasteyplates would be more approachable.

Everything you need is readily available and you won't have to even find malt extract if you don't want.

If you're stuck on pouring a traditional recipe is 2%agar and 2% malt extract. So for every 500ml water it's 10g of each. Your going to need a sleeve of sterile plates, and parafilm also at least.

I've never heard of anyone using micropore tape to seal plates but good luck. I feel I should also point out they should be sterile plates and not just llates you washed after buying pre poured plates. Don't really know what your working with.

Edit- here's a good how to
