Mist The Substrate Directly - For the Search Engine 3

Mist the substrate directly. Not just the walls.
We're trying to recreate the natural evaporation that comes with cycles of rain and drying. When it rains it rains everywhere. Not just on the walls away from what we're growing.
I think the "walls only" thing may have been some long criss crossed information from people growing Pan Cyans who's pins are known to be more sensitive to direct misting. Cubensis love it though so check your species if you're a n00b and unsure.
Mist the substrate when it starts to look dry.

The best I've found are the small pressure sprayer with nozzle set at its tightest to give a nice light aerosol rain. A few pomps and it's good to go.

Hand pump sprayers suck ass. All the ones I've had have failed me.

Haven't tried that sprayer but agree with your last statement.

When I mist, I have my spray on the finest setting and mist from a good distance from the sub but my myc bruises. Which is worse, dry sub or bruised myc?

When you say 'Finest setting' do you mean the thinnest stream or the mistyst mist?
You just need to experiment with different distances until the moisture kinda rains down on the substrate gently.
But I've never had that happen. I've never seen mycelium bruise from being misted.
Are you sure you aren't growing panaelous species?

Yeah mistyist mist. I'm actually afeared to mist because it's happened before, but I've a few small tubs on the go atm so I'll try 3 regular misting (When required) and 3 no misting and see what way they go. I'll post pics here with the differences.

It really only bruises with standing water from my experience. A fine mist or spray that can evaporate in a day or so will not damage the mycelium.

Just wanted to chime in and say I've never had a problem spraying my substrates directly. I've always thought that's what helped my pinsets . I also use a sprayer similar to that on the finest mist setting.
