Mycelium, video microscope and video mixer

A friend of mine and I have been batting around this video art project based around mycelium. I have a Panasonic video mixer and enjoy doing feedback loops and other forms of video art. we both cultivate and forage and want to get deeper on the cellular level. My friend has more experience in this field than I do.

THE POINT IS I have been looking at video microscopes online and I have found the SONY CCD cameras to be cheap and of interest. I wan wondering what kind of mount and lens I need which is in my budget range (~$100-200). Is getting 400x overkill?

Thank you for any thoughts and suggestions.
