Is PE Agar supposed to look like this?

I made my agar about 3 weeks ago using Pastywhyte's tek. I dyed them purple to see everything easier. After they pressure cooked I let them sit in the PC for about 3 hours then put them directly into the fridge. I inoculated with a PE syringe in a SAB. I got the syringe from an online vendor so I was worried it was dirty or something. This is what I'm seeing as of today. They don't look right but I didn't want to toss them before I got a second opinion. Thanks Bod and Pasty for the Teks!

Those look typical of initial spore germination. Definitely time for some transfers.

Wait. First off I thought I was going to get shit on about how this is all mold/contams. Do you see the different colors? Is that normal? I thought the colors were from the white growth on the purple agar turning it pink and light bluish. I looked at pictures of mycelium on agar and it looks ropy and just completely different. What am I missing?

Yeah man, there are people here who love to tell you to throw it all away.
One time I saw a Mushroom-Cultivation-Forum big shot tell someone to throw it all away because the spores weren't deposited on the agar in an orderly fashion.
Anyways, your agar looks fine. Especially the first one IMO.
It might not be ropey, not all myc is. It is said that when picking areas to transfer you should select the ropiest bits...I see a linear pattern in the first one there, start with that. Take from the others too and see what grows out.
You're doin fine

1 looks like myc. 2 and 3 look a bit sketchy. If you you are unsure if it's cube myc or mold and you have the time, let the plate sit and wait for agar pins to form and clone them. That happens usually a few weeks after full colonization.

Alright thanks guys. Think I'm going to transfer to some grain jars and let the others two sit and see what they turn into. I'll post pictures later.

By transfer, I meant to another agar plate. Those are definitely not ready for grains.

Ok I guess that's a whole new topic then. Why transfer to another plate and when are they ready to transfer to grains or LC? Let's say I cut it into 4 wedges. Do I leave 1 wedge still in there to continue to grow or use 100% of it?

One of the reasons for working with cultures on agar is to ensure they are free of contaminants. Germination of spores results in a mish mash of many many different stains growing on a single petri dish. This makes identification of contams difficult. The more transfers you do, the less strains you have growing over the top of one another. With enough transfers, you end up with a culture that grows in an organized, predictable fashion. At this point, any contams that are still lingering will be easily identifiable. Most of the time contams are easy to spot, but some are sneaky and don't make their presence be known until you have a somewhat organized culture. I hope this makes sense, kinda hard to explain for me.
