Should I battle contamination or just toss the whole thing?
    #25601185 - 11/08/18 02:35 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

I believe I have a contamination. I have physically removed it. Should I do anything to combat this? Or just toss the whole thing? Was only getting ready to start the second flush.

I seem to have an issue with my dunking method? Should I just spray the hell out of it next time?

Also, I absolutely hate cutting over picking but I keep hearing cutting is the way to go. Though when I picked, I had no issue. Why is cutting the way to go?

I'll figure out how to add pictures eventually....

So the green on-top of the white in the picture I'm assuming? I'm interested what you sub is formed of? There seems to be leaves and twigs?

Cutting over pulling is more about not disturbing the surface too much, leaving it more open and potentially damaging pins next to where it's pulled. Plus you don;t get substrate stuck to the bottom of the fruit

It's coir and vermiculite, the coir has some grassy fibers in it. This is a very close up picture, it's not too big. I'm using popcorn grain Spawn.

Yes this has happened before and the white stuff that grew rapidly after the dunk turned green/blue shortly later. I'm trying to be proactive and save the tub rather than dump it. It has stopped expanding, which is a good sign. I have physically removed it and a little the sub beneath/around it. I have heard of people lightly spraying hydrogen peroxide in the area.

I'm really wondering if it's possible to save or if it's toast. If I can save it, how?

I can understand cutting so that other pins in the grouping can mature, and to keep the stems clean, but I hate leaving it, I'd like to pick the cut stems once the flush is done. The myc under it is useless anyways when it has dead mushroom flesh on top of it, and with the sub I'm using, I can avoid disturbing much of anything around it.

I'd change up your coir perhaps..it should just be coconut fibre..other organic material is a vector for contam..That could be the route of the issue. You can try salting the area and placing a glass over it to try and halt the spread, but its likely to re-appear

Cutting or pulling is a preference, but I've cut most of mine, and I do find the stumps do grow back over with mycelium, as the stumps are still wired into the nutrient network
