Panaeolus cyanescens or panaeolus antillarum?? Help
    #25599200 - 11/07/18 05:07 PM (5 years, 4 months ago)

Found these in a pasture in Georgia in cow dung. I know that these are either pan cyanescens/ pan antillarums, but I cannot tell the difference between the two. Being that one is active and one is not, could y’all help me identify which ones are which?? Thank you!

I think most of them look like P. antillarum. I'm not sure about #10, does it bruise blue?

I can’t really make out any blue on it yet atleast. I went and picked some yesterday in the exact same spot and most of them were cyanescens. It seems to me that these are about the same but something may be off with them.

The cyanescens will bruise blue pretty obviously. That is the easiest way to distingish them from various lookalikes. Antilarum macroscopicly looks pretty much identical but wont bruise blue.

Do the other look alikes have a black spore print as well? Or can you only tell by blue bruising?

Yes

You can also tell by the stems. P. cyanescens has a pruinose (powdery) stem, whereas P. antillarum doesn't. That's why I'm curious about #10, it appears to have a pruinose stem.

Well these pictures were taken after I washed them over a bit with water if that matters. But that makes sense though I didn’t know that.

Hey bangbang, when you find copes you'll know it as soon as you pick them because they will begin to blue right away.  If they aren't bluing within seconds, you have antillarum.
