So I was just pouring the agar into my plastic petris which I finally bought, kinda had to I can't really own more glass ones.

While I was pouring the agar a titty implant sized thing fell out and landed in petri dish much to my amusement. It luckily didn't splash and I could still close it.

I know I should pour agar at 50C, I poured it at 43 (had thermometer glued to the side of the bottle).

So my question is at what temperature does agar solidify? I was using 1.5% agar 2% dme mix.

@Mateah

It's not common information, you can find some here in my pocket guide.

----

Acidification (Simple edition):

Acidification can cause mycelium to fruit (various reasons), allowing for mild acidification and then increasing the pH, increases the number of cycles.

Once the media pH reaches a level the mycelium and-or it's enzymes are no longer stable, it will not produce any more fruits.
At this point the media pH must be increase (reset to original), any waste potential should also be removed.

This is where 'some' secondary decomposers would come in, tolerant to the acidification (acid stable enzymes and low pH tolerance).
The dung which cubensis likes, is not acidic, it has a pH of 6.5+, so some decomposers come in when the pH has increased.

As acidification takes place, and enzymes begin to destabilize, mycelium will start to respond to low(er) nutrients or low(er) uptake.
Usually there a few different types of enzyme that target a material, the main setting difference is the stable pH range.

Acidification can also effect various protease enzymes, but not other enzymes (causing a low nitrogen uptake).

----

If you dunk with CaCO3 you help this process and also allow the mycelium to remove oxalates.
Under optimal conditions, fruiting potential will likely be capped by nutrients.

----

What do I need to do to minimize side pins on future grows?  The two boxes that are fruiting now have a lot.  Not sure what I did wrong.

That can happen if the spawn is running out of nutrients (various reasons), causing it to fruit in those area's.
It can also happen due to light, and if the mycelium has no direction (no idea where is up).

----

The following data will vary slightly depending on the mycelium being grown.

----

Low nutrient (the paper spawn is turning into compost), old recipe:

Note: seaweed should be avoided.

----

Surface detection (higher O2, notice the surface growth):

----

Lid left on, pinning in the area with highest O2:

thats not what causes side pins. its all about conditions near the tote and the substrate being more ideal for pins than the surface.

side pins are not caused by light, not knowing up vs down, or lack of nutes. never heard lack of nutes being a cause before.

these are clearly first flush pins. if it were due to sub running out then we would see a lot more shrinkage and a lot less smashed fruit

What causes mutant fruits? I recently got a new print from a site sponcer and the first flush is mostly mutant fruits. Many fruits grew upside down, gnarly stems.

It is my first mono tub, although im treatinf it like a large shoebox.

Can conditions cause mutants? Eg. Bacteria, low temps, etc???

Or did i get a "bad" print?

Ive only seen one or two mutant fruits in the last year using a different sponcer

genetics are a lottery. certain varieties are more likely to mutate like PE or KSSS but yes bacteria can cause mutants, some mutations can be as simple as over wet sub. premature veil tearing is known to occur in said case

I used spent media to spawn that test run, hence the darker colour (much older, more decayed).
There is also seaweed bacteria, which doesn't compete, but does decay and feed.

Looks dry to me, probably to much dry mass in the fruit bodies. If not maybe bacteria?
It also looks like there isn't enough FAE, from what I can see.

I'm curious about the setup, what is the humidity and how are you getting FAE (is the lid off, a device)?

2 ?'s Aborts & Dehydration [Re: Ferather]
    #25599098 - 11/07/18 04:27 PM (5 years, 3 months ago)

On my second flush day 3.  Wondering if these pins are aborts?

Also, I got a dehydrator, had 65g fresh (they’d been paper bagged in the fridge a couple of days) and feel like I let them dry out too much cause now they are 4g.  I’ve read it doesn’t really effect potency but... what about dosage?

I'd eat all 4g. That's pretty much a good starter level trip
