How to do Shaman?

Goal:

To expand and elevate the consciousness of the entire human race

I don’t want a college answer. I want a real answer.

Where? - what organization focuses on accepting people?
How? - website?
What? - location and experience?

Basically I want to be a committed “spiritual teacher” or otherwise, a shaman. I seek teaching. I am dedicated to this path

I'd say go to nature places and figure out what you can do there to expand and elevate the consciousness of the entire human race. Maybe alone maybe not.

shamans are not taught by people. but plants. the person that can aid you the most on this journey is thyself

shy away from anyone spouting nonsense. IE terrence mckenna or alan watts don't get me wrong wise words are wise words no matter where they come from. but terrence mckenna wouldn't know what consciousness is to save his life

I think that raising the collective consciousness of humanity would be the last thing on a shaman’s mind. They’re usually concerned with smaller scale social concerns in the tribe, or divining weather patterns pertinent to crops and other practical concerns.

Wanting to raise the consciousness of humanity is an ego projection in disguise true shamans would likely scoff at.

Then again, maybe I read too much anthropological literature.

I think that a lot of these Western approximations of shamanism—website seminars and such—are laughable. Go to the amazon or Siberia and apprentice.

So we shouldn't strive to wake people up and create a better world, and instead just accept things as they are and live our own individual lives even though we gotta put up with the way things are and all the bullshit?

Fuck that, i say people should wake up from their ignorance and see the vast potential of the Human race and what all we could do if people just realize all this shit we think is real in so called "reality" is what's actually the ego projection and illusion, it's imaginary, therefore we could completely change the game and create a new vision for the world, but this is definitely not an ego projection, it's serious business, it's enlightenment/illumination, it's a much better idea than just putting up with the way things are.

The maelstrom that is the human race has hit epic proportions Sabnock, I don't think we can turn the tide globally anymore. Is that defeatist or realist?

I think all we can do is effect our immediate surrounds. Reject negativity, connect with the ever present, conserve and rejuvenate all that we touch. Encourage those who want to learn and become more, and avoid those who would destroy us because we do not conform. Grow a garden and commune with it, learn slowly and be honest with ourselves. Speak truthfully or be silent.

There are more than enough McKenna knock offs out there.

OP. Just trip and figure it out on your own. No one can grant you the title of shaman unless that’s a huge part of your culture. It’s just something you kind of become over time.

True, but i'm more of the mindset to try and try again, keep trying, even till the last breath. But yes, work on ourselves, on our immediate surroundings, try to get people interested, and don't waste much time/effort on trying to wake people up who clearly don't wanna wake up, but one can still dream and try to make that dream a reality lol.

People don’t want to be woken up. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I guess I’m just biased towards the advaita Vedanta nondual point of view that everything is perfectly imperfect. Identification with the “witness” beneath contents of consciousness yields no judgements. I read too much Ramana Maharshi.

I have a general, I guess you could call it disdain, toward gimmicky new age “shamanism” and pseudo spirituality. It’s this weird superficial intrigue with the archaic that’s insulting to such misunderstood traditions. “Shamans” in the West are thrown in loony bins, or avoided by the very people who do yoga or spend too much money on Kambucha, or who think they can add the title somewhere next to their other titles and initiations after attending an Internet or weekend workshop.
