Possible Cobweb?
    #25596326 - 11/06/18 02:31 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

Long story short these are 2 cakes I bought from growkits (I'm doing myself from now own, got some jars colonizing).

I did a nono and experimented with fruiting technique, I thought the growbags were inefficient and I've tried alternative fruiting methods to growkit cakes before with success. But this time I am afraid I dun goofed. It is about 1,5 weeks since I birthed the cake, one I grated and made a kind of bulk and the other just straight cake.

They grow alot of mych around them still reaching out, but some of it looks abit greyish so I was afraid it might be mold. What do you guys think?

Bulk

Cake

Looks like mycelium lacking FAE..What's your airflow like?

The bulk is in a tub got some small holes with micropore tape over them, It isn't efficient enough so I fan alot (gonna make some bigger holes on it when I can), the cake is in a tub with 6 big holes with filterfilt over the holes (polyfill but flat), I fan that one alot as well.

I live in a cold country, so I have the room temperature fairly high and dont open the windows in my room so much - is that a problem? They are also on a drawer around 1,5 high, with a direct light (not too close to the tubs) on about 8 hours a day.
But the drawer is in the corner if the room, is that a problem?

Thanks for the help!

You shouldn't need to fan if the FAE is dialled in..Follow the Easy AF Shoebox tek in my sig for that...For the cake you would be better using the humidity chamber, again link in my sig

I was saying you should adapt what you have now based on those teks..For the shoebox crack the lid, you need more FAE than you're getting..And for the cakes you should have have the cake sitting on foil in something wet, like coir or verm so as you create the correct conditions for fruiting

Ah right, the bulk is covered by a cling wrap lid, should I just remove a part of ir? It wont expose it too much to contams? And right now the cake is standing on wet verm, should I put foil under?

Thanks alot for your help, much appreciated

You can make some holes in the cling film so you can have evaporation occurring, make a few then assess for a day or two..you want the surface to slightly dry and then mist once every day or so, but only if it looks like it needs it..Yes cut a piece of foil the same diameter as the cake, poke some pin holes in it, and sit the cake on..Make sure the verm is soaked, and again make sure the tub has FAE

I poked some holes in the film for the bulk and then some wet verm under the cake with a piece of foil with holes in inbetween

Will keep you updated!

So the bulk now has 3 small pins! But so much fluffy myc still growing, I am trying to fan alot - some of the myc still look greyish so I am still abit scared it's cobweb? Then again would there be pins if there was contams?

Cake is still not pinning

Around the edges is where surface conditions are best for pinning at the moment..which means the middle is probably too dry..Stop fanning and provide correct FAE by either cracking the lid or using a bag with holes in it..and mist the surface all over, then wait for it to look dry before misting again

aye aye Captain, it does have 2 in the middle, I am still using the clingwrap with holes in it, I misted around the middle to promote growth there. It isn't the healthiest bunch, the middle one is really thing and the one in the back to the left is really crooked! 😁
