A human processed them(human error still a factor)... they want your money and could care less the level of sterility... no telling how long they sit before you order, then it ships to you and is handled by countless others... you'll have higher chances of success prepping in house, even with noob mistakes IMO

80-90 temps are much more favorable to contaminants,  and full colonization and FAE are pinning triggers... temp drops are for some species, but not cubes... 65-75 temps throughout the grow...

Thank you very much guys. I gave it some thought and i opened the bags as they were hopeless in those bags i think. It was a war in there. That one bag stunk and i gagged. I cut all that shit out. Saw some mold in there too. Got rid of that as well.

I'm going for it guys. I sprayed entire tote with lysol for a minute and they wiped it with paper towel to disinfect humans touching it from store.

100% coir. Properly hydrated (i think) 3in mixed well. Very thin top layer just pure coir. No exposed grains. No Mycelium on very top to keep it clean. I made an error however. I didn't pasteurize coco. We'll see if it holds up.
6500k Fluorecent shop light on mechanical timer.

I was hoping that probe will also measure humidity inside but it's only temp probe :frown: Displayed humidity is indoor. Should i put this thing inside????

Edit: I cleaned the probe with lysol and placed it inside the tote, otherwise i have no idea what humidity is is. Humidity currently is 86% and raising. Will need to check it in few hours. What the humidity range should be?

Anyone want to take a guess win of bust and what % you giving it succeeds.
I'm sorry. I just had to try it. We'll see what happens. All i'm wasting at this point is half a coir brick. Not a big deal.

Also do u guys every use Hydrogen peroxide to clean mold spots if they develop. I read 35% cleans it well and does not hurt mycylium. I wonder if it can be added to substrate if one sees mold develop? Thoughts? Take them bets guys. Will i fail miserably?

Current humdity 90% now, temp 75F. Substrate is 3in even. I thought it was close to 4 but it isn't. Oh well. I don't think i had enough spawn for that much coir anyway so this may actually work out well.

I think i read lid should be closed for 2 days to maintain high humidity and let mycylium colonize substrate. If thats not correct please correct me.

I don't monitor temp or rh... especially with spawn ... once mixed to bulk,  allow full colonization and the development of surface moisture  (1-2 days later) and then simply maintain a fine mist on the surface, being sure to allow evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate

Thanks guys. Thoughts on progress based on new pics i just uploded.

What kind of yield should i expect?

I'm keeping temps right on 75F and humidity is 100% (high it shows) as it can not show anything higher then 100.

I mist first thing in the morning and last thing before i go to bed.

A good goal is one dry ounce per quart of spawn first flush harvest... I wouldn't be misting at all yet, as surface moisture will develop on it's own 1 or 2 days after full colonization, and then only mist when needed: never on a schedule... excess moisture will slow and even stall,  while increasing favorable conditions for contaminants... rh meters are basically useless, as they do little to indicate microclimate conditions at the surface: concentrate on (after full colonization and the development of surface moisture) maintaining surface moisture, but allowing evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate... looking fair so far, days from spawn?

5 days from days myc got mixed into coir. Mycelium looks wet little bit. Should i remove the lid to dry it a bit at least on surface or just stop misting for few days?

I regret not doing 50/50 coir/verm as verm would better keep moisture proper i think yet?

I'm not sure if it's too wet but mushrooms like moisture. I'm open to suggestions.

Just leave it alone... Maintain conditions by walking away another 3-5 days  (look, don't touch) verm really not as helpful as it's put off to be IMO/E,  and would suspect the sub a little wet due to obsessive misting... no drastic measures, just let it do it's thing... They need (and even benefit from IMO) very little of your input :2cents:

Thank you. The growth has slowed down on the surface but inside the coir its still going on. The coir has dried up a bit as well. It use to be dump (properly hydrated) and now it's barely moist on the surface at least. On the inside obviously i don't know.

I didn't use tap but distilled water for purification reasons and not to introduce any other substances.

Should i add hydrated lime into my next tote growth? , as i'm not counting this one as successfully regardless what happens.

I'm getting side pins tho. Those mushrooms for some reason like to be pinned against tote. I have one or two on the bottom as well ...wtf is wrong with them. Up fools up.

I use coir only and despise additives: getting side pins because surface conditions aren't favorable

Tap water is fine, you spawned in open air and your substrate is already full of contaminants from that day forward

What do u mean i spawned in open air? How else would one do it?

Those mushrooms grown in forest full of contaminants everywhere, in fact they grow out of cow dung, also full of contaminates, bacteria and the most foul substrate can exist. I'm not following.

The point is there's no need to baby them now with sterile water and other precaution... no additional risks
