First grow, concerns about BRF cake colonization with pictures.

So this my first attempt at growing, and i'm somewhat concerned because my BRF cakes do not look like other pictures that i have seen. Whereas most people's cakes seem to be almost flawlessly white, I can still see a lot of exposed vermiculite. It seems that my mycelium colonized very dilutely and i'm wondering what i might have done wrong. I inoculated my jars about a month ago and my cakes appeared to have been fully colonized about a week ago, as in the mycelium spread all throughout the jar, yet as mentioned before, i can still see a lot of exposed sub throughout. I gave it a little over a week to see if it would fill out, but i didn't really notice a change, so i've decided to just move on to dunking (which might have been the wrong move but oh well, you live and you learn). Here are pics of my cakes right after dunking. I realize it'd probably be better if i had pictures pre-dunk, but i didn't think to make a post until now.
I was very careful to make sure that the water content in the verm was just right when i was preparing my sub, but any advice/feedback you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Mine looked like that too on my first grow, but all 6 of my cakes produced wonderfully and are now on their third flush, so I think you should be fine. They might just take a bit longer to start pinning.

Out of curiosity, did you begin your consolidation period as soon as the mycelium had spread throughout the jar, or did you leave it in the jar for longer? Also how long did it take for pins to show up after birthing? I go out of town for some time in a little over 2 weeks, so I'm thinking I'll be lucky to get a single flush at this point.

Once my jars appeared fully colonized (I treated each one individually because they all colonized at different speeds) I let them sit for 3-4 days to make sure they fully colonized, then I birthed them into a SGFC. The first fruit I got was actually from a cake that had started pinning in the jar (which was actually the biggest fruit they've produced so far), but the rest took just a little over a week to start pinning.
I actually had to go out of town for about 4 days as soon as I birthed them, I just made sure the perlite was nice and wet (but not enough for water to pool at the bottom of the tub) and that my light source was set on a timer.
Your cakes fruiting could've been delayed by lack of hydration, but I think as long as you dunked them long enough to get them nice and hydrated, you should be fine. You might even have fully mature fruits before you leave in 2 weeks!
