PFTek (1 Pint) Contam or Mycelium (Flipped jars)
    #25594932 - 11/05/18 09:42 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

Okay so I have no good pics because of the condensation on the bottoms of the flipped jars making it impossible to get any.

My concern is I am using pint jars for the PFTek and flipped the jars to help speed up the colonization of the bottoms and now after 3 days I see some fluffy white stuff coming in toward the middle of the uncolonized bottoms. I'm not totally sure if the fuzzy stuff is actually a contam or simply mycelium that has grown through the middle of the cake and is coming toward the surface now.

If anything I'm thinking it is possibly pennicillium from the looks. But its hard to say since it just started and is only white and fluffy just yet. Any thoughts? What are the odds of the cake contaming once flipped? I can't imagine it being great since the cakes are upside down and there is still a verm layer that would protect the inside of the jars.

Again, sorry I don't have a picture. Thanks all!

How can a 180 degree turn cause contam? Makes zero sense.  Post a pic if you want definitive answer but most likely is myc. Gl

I would filp them back upright. It's probably mycelium but cobwebs mold grows on uncolonized sub that doesn't have good airflow so idk. If it is cobweb mold u will know by tomorrow! It takes everything over VERY fast but like I said it's probably ok but I can't tell ya for sure without a picture

How can lack of airflow cause contamination? Makes zero sense.
