Best Cultivation Book Available?
    #25593680 - 11/05/18 10:59 AM (6 years, 2 months ago)

I know this has been asked and I know some folks will just say use the Shroomery! Which is great, an excellent source but sometimes I like to be able to reach over and physically reference something when I’m having trouble accessing the internet, it would also be beneficial to have something organized and not have to sift through hundreds of topics to find the answer but to look at a table of contents. Also a benefit would be up to date information and details that some of the members here omit without all the foreign lingo that some of us beginners don’t immediately grasp. I’m looking for something very detailed, organized, up to date, for all levels of experienced cultivators.

Is there anything out there that you all would suggest?

For mushrooms in general (including gourmet and medicinal) or strictly actives?

No such text exists IMO. I've read a few and they're so outdated it isn't even funny.

It sounds like you need to start learning how to use the advanced search. Once you do, searching on this site is soooo easy. I'd be absolutely shocked if you couldn't find what you needed.

I’m interested in both but if a book was available kudos if it had a section dedicated strictly to actives.

@mad season

It’s not really about using the search function, it’s more about a physical reference cause that’s what I prefer sometimes. Also occasionally have WiFi troubles.

Organic Mushroom Farming and Mycoremediation

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Organic-Mushroom-Farming-Mycoremediation-Experimental/dp/1603584552

This book only touches on edible and medicinal mushrooms and some is probably outdated but it got me into growing.

Shroomery is still the best reference.

Even RR would tell you that's stupid.
His opinions and ideas have changed and advanced with time. And fwiw he never grew cubes the way we do anyway. Great advice yes. Treating it like God's word, stupid.

I'll still research and look at other's success before coming to a conclusion, but RR seems to be one of the most knowledgeable people on this site and, from what I've seen, right about most things mycology related an overwhelming majority of the time- so of course i'll hold his opinion above others.
In the short time I've been on this site you're also one of the ones that have taught me a bunch of what i now know, your dumbed-down teks are what push a bunch of noobs to actually give mycology a shot i think.

I imagine if one is able to read enough of anything, one would begin to have natural digressions into "truth" but recognizing that we are the forefront of growing cubes in this way... I would highly recommend that learning first what works and what doesn't work will be of use to you. There are many different pathways up the mountain. A collection of notes from active users here will yield a much greater database from which one may begin a healthy aspect of research from.

Cause and effect. Trial and Error. These are natural vectors for furthering a study/discipline into "truth"

If there was a book to teach people how to account for human error and just sheer laziness this would be Skyrim or some other video game..

People must learn that it takes time to develop the consciousness. To develop a RELATIONSHIP with Nature and with Los Ongos/niños

(this is a horrible but fun analogy hahaha, let the flaming commence) ****

****They are like strippers.... give them enough love and enough attention and they might become your friends.. but until you trust each other.... no nani for the extortionist..

Lol

Not really, it's their job to pleasure you... That stripper is basically the child you raised, so basically it's in your right to be able eat them.
