PC Very Loud Noise

I am new to growing mushrooms, I have used my brand new 23q presto PC twice so far to make agar. Yesterday night I attempted to sterilize rye. I loaded the jars, poured in water and I made sure there the steam hole was not blocked.
I turned the heat to high, vented for 10 mins then I put on the weight. When the pressure reached ~10PSI the PC started making an extremely loud and painful whistling noise scaring all neighbors. I also got scared turned the heat off moved the PC off the stove. It sounded like a siren, I thought someone would call the fireman or cops.
What could have been the cause? I am scared to try again, the sound was coming from the silver air vent with TOP written on it. Has anyone experienced what happened to me?

Im not that experienced, but it sounds like maybe your PC's seal has a leak?

You should clean your PC before using it for the next round. Check the sealing-ring to be in correct position. Check that over-pressure valve ( the small round black one in the lid ) to be in correct position.
Cant imagine anything other but i am just a noob

That sounds dodgy as hell mate. I've had about 3 go bad on me, it's usually the seal. Safer to just get a new one.

Just press on that button thing that says top until it seats properly and seals.
Thats the safty pop-up. So the lid can't be rotated to the open position if there is pressure inside. Obviously pressure pushes it up. And the whistle is because it was letting steam/air out. So fix it

That's fucked up. Maybe you can track down that noise and fix whatever's causing it or maybe you can exchange it, since it's new.
Ive got that same PC and it doesn't whistle...

He said it was the lockout plug.
"The air vent with TOP wrote on it" Its not a vent its the lock safety feature. Read the manual before use would really clear that part up.

Or a new seal lol... Its not his seal leaking the lockout safety didn't seat properly it just needed to be wiggled. Again reading directions before using a bomb in your home is a good idea.

I did read the instructions. It is called air vent/cover lock on the instruction manual that was whistling. I modified the weight adding 3 quarters as per Bod's video. Could that have caused a problem?

When the pop up went up it went up semi crooked or a piece of debris got in there so it didn't seal. And then it whistled. Just juggle it or press it in a few times till it seals.

For real? Is this after like, thousands of uses?
Because the seal on mine occasionally stops working perfectly and I find that gently stretching it out and oiling it always restores it.

Yeah two of them lasted years, even tough one was a cheap boot sale job. And the other one was my bad, passed out while cooking grain and burned the shit out of it. Had my current cooker for nearly a year hundreds of runs no drama. I think the quality of the cooker makes a good difference to long it lasts as well as not being a wreckhead and burning them.

Same here although I use mine alot for canning other things like fruits and veggies. As long as I maintain it well it's fine. Have had this one for 3 years now. The only problem I've had is the rack rusting when I left it sit too long.

This ^
Mine does the same thing, I put a very light coat of vegetable oil on it to help it seat in place.

I feel bad for this op. He just was happily trying out his pc and it starts squealing at him, and he has no idea what to do lol. I'm sure he was way too scared to even touch the pc lol. You'll see, as you use the pc more and more, you'll get comfortable about what it can handle. Eventually you'll see it leaking sometimes and be all like FUCK! Wiggling the pc around trying to make it seal, getting pissed at it for being too loud. Tying the handles down to make it seal that much better. Taping coins onto the weight and shit . No need to be so scared/timid. PCs can take a lot, and only shouldn't be used when there's dents or cracks in the aluminum. Yeah oils can help seal seals, but even that won't last forever.

Yeah seriously! I woulda shit my pant if my PC started screaming at me haha. My biggest fear when I first started using it was something going wrong and BOOM! No more stove top or ceiling haha. Thankfully that's never happened and I use my PC regularly now for canning all sorts of things.
