Dealing with no-pour snap-on lids is a hassle — reason enough to move to pouring agar in an SAB?

After a few agar to agar transfers in my SAB, dealing with the tight snap-on lids of my no-pour containers is rather stressful I've realised and leads to a lot of messing around in the SAB.
Should I just move to pouring agar in disposable petris in my SAB? Or does this just bring another set of complications?

Use two hands to open the lids upside down stacked on each other before flame sterilizing the xacto.

So you are saying to open and stack them prior to flame sterilizing but why put them upside down?

For no pour its the right way to use them. A no pour has a very high side wall which means one can not remove the lid and get a wedge withoit placing ones hands directly above your sterile media. What you want is it upside down and the lid loosened to where you just lift the container up with one hand and rotate it towards the sab holes. The only thing you must avoid is letting your hands ever be over the lid.
What i do is have my no pour towards the back of the sab. Peel the base off towards my left with my left hand take the transfer replace the base on the lid carefully then move to the donor plate to my left to minimize drafts take that base and peel that off towards the left again rotating it towards the sab holes, make the transfer and replace the base on the lid again without your hands going over the lid.

If your using the round glad containers, slightly twist the lid while pulling the lid off. I hold the container on its side for this, when I used no pour. This also allowed extra moisture to drip out the bottom side, between the lid and container. After a couple rounds in the PC the containers get easier to open.
You CAN pour plates in a SAB, but if your having issues with no pours in a SAB, you will probably have issues with pouring in a SAB, and then those plates wont be clean.

Pouring plates is really easy in a SAB. No pours are always a hassle imo

Just pour some agar. There will be a learning curve, but its easy to observe your growth, disposable, and fast. Enough space in the PC to pour 40 plates is nothing, how much room does 40 no pours take?

I started off doing no pour mini rounds. Injecting through the SHIP was gong show. Lots of hassle for a guy that's starting out fumbling around in a SAB. I prefer petris now. I can see what's happening on the plate and take pics without taking the lid off. The learning curve pouring was pretty quick.

Thanks for that reminder jhova, makes total sense to turn it upside down as to prevent contaminants from dropping from your gloves. Thanks for the tutorial recommendation as well, I’ll give it a look
