Looks like spores.  Did you pick some mushrooms off that side?

Looks like black pin mold. Probably because that fruiting chamber was bot built right, so you didn't get any fresh air exchange and made conditions favorable for it.

Cakes that it has grown on, pick the mushrooms and toss the cakes. Cakes that have black pin mold on them can not be saved.

Cakes should NOT sit straight on perlite, should be on foil the size of the cake.

Also cakes yield much better when you cover them in a layer of vermiculite. You birth, dunk, and coat in vermiculite.

Build you a proper Shot Gun Fruiting Chamber.

It COULD be, but spores usually spread more even. Based on pics it looks like black pin mold to me.

you can be sure it's spores if you picked some lately that had gills showing, with all dem black beneath.

No you can NOT just remove it.

Did you let a shroom open its cap and go to spore on that side? If not then it IS MOLD. It is as simple as that. Spores don't drop until the cap is wide open.


I have seen plenty of spores drop, and I have never seen little clumps in the spores like I see there. I have however seen black PIN mold look like that.

I'm not sure you got enough holes in that thing. Are they spaced every 2 inches? I didn't see the holes at first.


I would pick that cake and toss ANY cake that shows it. I would also get rid of the perlite and put new perlite in there and continue fruiting those that didn't have mold.

Pin mold looks like little tiny black mushrooms or lollipops. Meaning it will look like a little black ball on a small black stick, similar to a resin gland on weed, just black and tiny.

With no shrooms dropping spores it pretty much has to be pin mold.

oh yeah, second look zooming in on that 3rd pic. I see the web stretching across it. Just looking at the 3rd pic in the post itself seemed it was just black below on that side... But yeah, that don't look good at all, especially hearing you didn't have any ready to pick and being sure to zoom on all the pics. My bad, yeah, get the whole chamber out.
