Looking for feedback (Vendors and users) - Shroomery Sponsors Forum

Sweet. My main concern is that I'd like to be able to generate more traffic in here for all you vendors. Another thought I was kicking around, is to have all the vendor created contests/give-aways to stay here in this forum and out of the marketplace. I'd like to be able to utilize the vendor/sponsor forum to it's full potential and help generate a greater customer base for all the vendors. :grin:

More money for the vendors keeps you guys happy and keeps your sponsor revenue coming into the Shroomery, which benefit the community as a whole.

Initially we created a contest forum because they were the predominant threads in this forum. The contest threads kept getting bumped up while the special offers and such would always get pushed down. I would not like seeing us regress back to that.

As for a sticky with special offers and stuff, sounds good as long as the vendors had free access to edit, change, and update the specials. If we had to pm mods everytime we needed to make changes then I would be very much against it.

Set up properly though, it's not a bad idea.

I think if we could keep all the specials and deals in one stickied type thread (Or something similar), there wouldn't be that big of a problem with vendor created contests or give-aways. (All regular contests and give-aways would still go in the Marketplace forum).

Yeah actually after giving it some thought, it would be ideal if each sponsor had a sticky. Maybe that's what you were already thinking about anyway? It would be ideal because the individual vendors would not be competing for space.

Either that, or maybe one main "Vendor Specials" sticky with 1 reply from each vendor. In that reply, the vendor could list his/her current specials and promotions. That way, they'd still have the ability to edit their own post to reflect current promotions and add/remove things. I'm not really that concerned with vendors competeing for space. I don't think it would be a huge deal. I'm not too keen on the idea of a dozen stickies though (give or take. One for each vendor) Still thinking of ideas and such, but I believe we're on the right track. :smile:

After a sticky has been up for a while I tend to not even notice them, perhaps even ignore them. I am also not sure if I like the idea of moving the contests back in here. I have yet to see a contest not get noticed in the marketplace.

Good points. The sticky would just be named "Vendor Specials" or something to that effect. The contest thing is to keep the vendor related stuff in the sponsor forum. The vendor contests were originaly in here. I think if they were moved back in here, that would generate traffic back in this forum. I'd think that we'd put something in the marketplace to direct people here for vendor contests and giveaways.

Hmm, I don't know. That could be problematical. The vendor who last posted would be the only one showing in the index, I like to post pics in my promo threads and sometimes it takes up some space, members wouldn't be able to reply so readily to a specific vendor as it might be confusing, MOST OF ALL it could lead to interaction between the vendors :eek:

which has always led to bickering and which for the most part has ended in the forum.

Right now the vendors share a forum and there seems to be enough breathing room. If we all had to share a single thread? I don't know. Relationships between the vendors is always at best a very dicey and tenuous proposition.

Things seem to be going smooth right now. In this forum at least. :wink:

I'm a big fan of the way it is right now. :smile:

Yeah, I can see what your saying. This is all just an idea to bring the traffic in this place back up. I just see all these "specials" threads, and I was thinking of a way to give them and you guys more exposure. When a thread drops down a few notches, I don't think everyone sees them. I thought it would be a cool idea if we had all the vendors specials easily accessable for people to see.

I guess if you are saying we are all posting our specials and contests in the same thread I have to vote no to the idea. Boxtop pointed out the problems with it so all that is left for me to say is I vote no.

I like the idea of trying to bring more traffic to this forum, but I have to agree with both points that have been addressed by Boxtop and MycoBag.

You are seeing a lot of "special" threads right now because there are new (and returning) vendors that are trying to drum up sales. This will probably die down over time as they get settled in. Even if it does keep up, wasn't this forum created pretty much exclusively for Vendors to post their updates and specials and for users (customers or prospective customers) to ask questions of the vendors? I would suggest that if you created a single specials thread it might actually DECREASE traffic here.

Bringing the vendor related contests back may be a good idea though, but I am still skeptical. Becuase they tend to encouarge massive posting and therefore are always bumped to the top it would be easy for other user posts to get buried, not to mention update threads from vendors.

I like idea of daily porn :smile:

I just had an idea of something that might differentiate the vendor threads from other users. There could be a new post icons (where the sticky pin is displayed, not the other one) that would be an attention getter that is used only by vendors and is for sales/promotions and then yet another for announcement. They would need to be moving or flashing like the hot topic flame to get a visual attraction.

Now this may not be doable but I wanted to share the idea.

Bruiser, you have a good idea. Maybe instead of having a sticky with a vendor's special, you could have a sticky which links to a new thread, that way a vendor can have a special in this forum and nothing changes, but you still have a central location for the links..for ease of use.

The market place seems to be the central location for 'trades and contests', and most users are accustomed to going there for their contests, so I really don't the need for it to move....if it was segregated, people would have to look in two places.

If the idea is to not have the vendors specials get buried within this forum why don't we just stick the vendor special offer threads. When there over the vendors can edit the post title to say "closed" and we can un- stick them.

Let me first start off by thanking all of you guys for your feedback and replies. That was exactly what I was looking for. :smile:

After taking in all of you concerns and ideas, it doesn't seem like the sticky thing is gonna work out. I was just trying to think of a way to keep all of the specials/promotions in one general area so that they would reach more people. I wouldn't have included putting contests on that sticky with them. It was more like the weekly/monthly specials and the such. I don't think that everybody that browses this forum, takes full advantage of the promotions that you guys run, and I wanted to be able to drum up as much business for you as I could by having a page where everybody could see all of the current offers instead of having to trudge through all the other posts. I know most people don't go any further the the first page, and sometimes current deals and such get bumped back due to "thank you" posts and "where's my stuff?" posts.

I do like the icon idea. That could be feasable. I also still like the thought of bringing the contests back here. We would definately let people in the Marketplace know to check here for vendor contests. That's a given. I wouldn't want to do anything to decrease your businesses. I'll just leave that thought out there in limbo for now though. I've been keeping a close eye on things in the MP, and I want to see how a few things pan out first.

By no means is anything in concrete, or going to change. I've just been thinking alot lately on how to increase traffic and business for you guys and the community as well. I welcome any and all ideas or concerns any of you may have, whether on this topic or anything else for that matter. I'm always open to ideas, and am here to help you with any problems I can. Feel free to contact me anytime you wish. For now, looks like things aill stay the way they are. :smile:

Btw, I'm the person who lobbied to remove the contests from this forum. It didn't work then and I doubt it would be a good thing now.

Sticky would be fine with us, too many customers miss the specials, if the post slips past the first page.

Having read this thread I think I can point out a few things because I have seen this work in other forums (for computer parts).

1. A sticky post will not be ignored if it is constantly updated and tagged with something like UPDATED (DATE). This was (and is) extremely successful in the other forum that I talk about.

2. Two ways of doing it, either the big list of specials posted by vendor with links to threads announcing specials OR each vendor has their own post on that sticky thread.

Forget the first way (not because its a bad idea, its just really less tricky to pull off "fairly"), concerns are about the second way in which there is precedence by order. I believe that if it is a specials thread then the thread will be read completely anyway since a comparison is what the customer is looking for. Nobody is going to read the specials for the first vendor and then reject the rest. As long as each vendor is limited to one small post with links to the announcement threads (which is always edited, not reposted or the thread will gain size) I see no reason why this can't work out also.

It has to be either one post on the thread with a list (accessable to vendors or through mods to the post) or an ordered thread of one post per vendor. Update with editing.
