Questions For Cultivators 1

How many tries did it take for you to successfully cultivate? How long did it take you to have your first successful flush?
I know a lot of us are hindered by our surroundings or our equipment and some even by the teks and information we receive as beginners. I know I am.
I’m just curious as I’m feeling disappointed and discouraged by my attempts. Although I’m happy to say I have learned a lot and will continue trying. I think I would be a bit more successful if I wasnt so hindered by people, scheduling, space, time and equipment. I’m hoping to make a move next year that will help.
What’s your experience in the first 3-6 months of your cultivation process?

Well I had to learn from a book some 11 or so years ago. First attempt failed. 2nd one got me a couple trips and 3rd try for me a few OZ. I was doing cakes back then.
Have you been trying cakes or a bulk grow method? Fill me in on what you tried, that failed.

If you have issues with bulk just do pf tek in the meantime with a spore syringe while honing in your bulk skills.

First try With bulk as well as every other was a success for me. Took about two months from spores to agar to final results. Don’t worry you will get the hang of it.

My first attempt I grew an oz off of brf cakes.. 2nd try was bulk ended up with 2oz off it, 3rd grow gave me almost 3lb from 14 mini monotubs, I got so paranoid I said fuck a 2nd flush and dumped them all..and ended up giving my brother 1.25lb because I wasn't expecting those results

10 plus years ago a PfTek that yielded a single pinky size fruit.. didn't even print it just gave up. Fast forward to may of this year and after finding my first ovoid the myco bug hit me again. This time I went straight to bulk first 2 tubs success. Next 4 facepalm due to LC will never happen again. Now I only do agar 3 transfers then to oat. I will give you this key bit of advice if you plan to use the search function on this forum CHECK THE DATE. Yes we have 20 years of info. But Alot is outdated. Don't lurk post and ask a question tons of us are reading this page while waiting for PC to finish....

Is the “PSILOCYBIN Magic Mushroom Grower’s Guide” the book you was talking about? I have a really old copy of that book lol. It’s kind of a good read. I started growing bulk at first. Never really messed with PF tek. My first grow was two MS monotubs. Actually was a good yield. I’ve made lots of mistakes over the years but I’ve learned from them.

Technically about 1-2. My first PF cakes worked fine, and that was spore->agar->agar->MyceliumWater->pfcake in mason jar-> trays with coir. Kinda iffy but I got 2 full trays of thin tasty shroomies. I then ruined most of the batch by trying to oven dry. I bought a Dehydrator immediately after.

Months. Have patience.

You can get away with a single cheap office desk, a good SAB and sterile tek, and a decent PC. You dont need to be ambitious to be successful.
What’s your experience in the first 3-6 months of your cultivation process?
I learned Agar Agar Agar so I could become good at this. After that I had a couple tubs a month fruit. Then I got sloppy and dependent on LCs. Then I failed hard for like 8 months. Then I went back to basics, Agar to Grain, and relearned the craft, and now I'm busy organising pinning and fruiting shoeboxes New pics in my sig.
Dont feel discouraged. Get disciplined. pour some plates.

pf Tek years ago worked... but was pretty shitty for the effort.
Easiest way was on a straw log, results weren't bad but weren't great either.
My first mono triched and I planted it out side and got less than modist fruits out of it... but it survived.
My second mono got 3 oz dry and triched between flush 1 and 2.
I have an up and coming shoebox that looks like it will rock, and several quarts of spawn and several bags of grain ready to receive spawn. I'm pretty sure I'm over the curve. I started about 4-5 months ago. As with life, life happens. So it make take more or less time depending.

Yep, keep at it. Everywhere on the internet makes it look easy. I think the reason is because once you have it down, it is pretty easy. But the learning curve is pretty large and there is a lot of different ways of doing this hobby.
Plus, its not like gardening that has been around for millennia, propagating mushrooms has only been practiced for a few hindered years... and only successfully for the last century or so. Therefore we have tons of misinformation. But is hope, because there are several people on this site that contribute a vast amount of knowledge. Even if it is outdated in the next 10 years, which is likely, its much better than the common knowledge from 10 years ago, and 10 years before that. IMO were in the beginning of the golden age of mushroom growing. Give it 20-30 years and the changes will be monumental.

I took me about 3 trys with cubes due to bad vendors for spores and grow bags like a noob, also I was going against the grain trying to go to fast and loose with advanced info from threads I read of people doing it for years.
Bottom line just do the pf tek(with Shroomery spooner's products) as sterile as you can and exriment later. I had a problem with doing that and still made my own pf tek recipes with goat shit and coffee and other additives, also when I got down colonization good I would experiment with different temps( from 55 - 100f.)and lighting(stick and click to 6500k flouresents) grow boxes and the like on my first fruiting sesh.
Get pf materials, spores and a shot gun fruiting chamber and a light and your set to learn with no boundaries:)

Greybeard, if you had to go through my recent history you might think I'm a good cultivator, but if you go through to my first posts I was posting some janky shit, it happens, its a process.

Thanks again. I feel like I could more thorough but my paranoia gets me! Lol, I start rushing the process. I need room to relax, I’m hoping this move will go through next year and I can take my time.

If you are doing everything to a t it should work out good for you. One more suggestion that made a world of difference was a still air box. When I started I new little about mushrooms in general except for picking morels so I spent months researching them to death, and started my journey by first growing a box kit of blue oyster mushrooms yah know that brick that they sell at grocery Stores and the like. That gave me a hands on look at the life cycle of fruiting, and after I used the cardboard tek to continue the growing process and see how the mycelium worked, I eventually started hunting wild mushrooms like white oysters and cloned and expanded their mycelium with 70%+ success rate even started saving morel butts from miles away from my house and made a successful patch in my yard.
For a about 8 months I did this until I was confident enough to do cubes, but little did I know this it was a whole nother challenge going from sloppy native species to a tropical dung loving indoor sterile sensitive grow, which cost me hundreds of dollars of scam supplies and 5 months of time to see my first flush.
So for me it was a year and a quarter and hundreds of dollars down the drain, but now it's almost second nature to me so do not be discouraged at all. I didn't even make any post of my grows on here(even the successful ones) because I was afraid of facing ridicule by the pros

Anyone should be able to get a couple oz of shrooms for about $50 in supplies.
PF tek with STEAMED cakes is cheap as fuck, and it works!

I failed cakes to bulk 3 times before doing a poor man's pod to birth my single first mushroom. I finally understood the importance of temperature. Took about 2-3 more attempts until I understood the importance of humidity. And another 2-3 attempt to understand the importance of FAE. Casing and pinset have come very naturally since then. So, about 2 years of failures and little results.
