Slight exaggeration for fun. I mean by technicality you totally could do 10 boxes. Commercial mushroom growers use very little spawn, to my knowledge, because they can guarantee the cleanliness of it. The reason we use spawn in the typical ratios of 1:1/1:2 is for quick colonization to efficiently establish through the sub in order to get ahead of possible contams. Really it depends on your preference. If I were doing shoeboxes (of course depending on your lil tub sizes cuz they vary) I would do like 3 or 4, maybe 5 out of that bag judging by the looks of it. Nothing stopping you from stretching that to 10 and upwards, though. You just increase your risk for contams to get a foothold in there as you expand the difference of spawn to sub ratio. What bulk sub you planning on using?

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but that bag looks fairly bacterial to me. You should look up a few threads on identifying bacterial spawn. It's worth a try spawning, but I definitely wouldn't stretch the ratio too far.

Your bag looks to me like one of those small size bags. Two of those for a 60qt monotub is reasonable. I'd suggest using a similar spawn:sub ratio for that bag as well. The number of boxes you make is irrelevant, as long as the spawn ratio is the same.

I agree with slightly bacterial looking however I am hesitant to jump to that conclusion without evidence of colonization delay. Bags condensate like that when temps swing or they age. Plus the bottom looks alright to me which is usually the problem area with bags and bacteria would congregate in the abundance of drained moisture to that lower half. The fact that the top is where it's mostly condensated is what makes me think it's hot/old and perspirating. I see no large definite metabs either. Tricky tricky. Best to still be safe and go 1:1 like barnie says

Spawn can be bacterial AF with seemingly no real effect on colonization speed... there's no question that it's bacterial though..  the higher metabolic rate/temperature of the bacteria  (which is throughout the culture) is causing the sweating... that section has the best conditions, which tell me you're loading your bags wayyy too wet... I think 1:1 is the way to go even with clean spawn... even 1:2 seems like a waste of resources IMO,  unless you're climate is dry and you're open air fruiting... additional bulk mix equates to better water retention, NOT yeild: which can still be estimated at one dry ounce per quart of spawn (not bulk mix)...

Now that you mention it... I inoculated the 3 bags at the same time, 2 of them which I used for my tub, colonized fairly fast, within 3 weeks +/-

The third bag, took 1 month and 3 weeks. The mycelium definitely looks 'fluffier' than the bags 1 & 2 , here are more pictures taken today.

Is it worth a try?

Maybe fruit that as a giant block but spawning/expanding that is asking for moldz.

It's bacterial AF, but I don't see any other obvious molds... might be worth a shot, but I'd start something fresh, and wouldn't count on this... idk that I'd spawn it and risk the resources: but I've got more mushrooms than I can eat or give away, which makes it easier to be a spawn snob... prolly just fruit it in the bag with a shallow casing

I suppose I will focus on the tub that is fruiting now xD

I might try an outdoor grow for that bag, there is a big yard behind my apartment building

It was freezing a few days ago, but it went back to normal now.

Right now it's 72°, but it's very humid (no rain) and sunny during the day.

I flamed a spoon red hot as soon as I saw the mold and ripped it off the tub, then filled the huge hole with wet salt.

Hopefully that will slow down the mold so it can fruit at least once :rolleyes:

Careful man you should just get rid of that.  When its green its sporulating but the whole tub is probably full of trich you can't differentiate from shroom mycelium.  That thing can blow up over night and you dont want those spores around
