Shape of the casing and Air Exchange
    #2557354 - 04/13/04 10:58 PM (20 years, 7 days ago)

I've noticed that with most peoples casing/fruiting chamber setups, that the actual growing medium is for the most part flat, and often times in some sort of a container with a lip several inches above the medium. Given the fact that CO2 is heavier than O2, has anyone considered putting the substrate/casing medium in more of a mound shape in order to allow the CO2 to "run-off" towards the edges providing for a better pinning/fruiting environment?

Sounds definately feasible, I figure giving it as many bumps and crevaces as possible only adds more surface area to fruit from as well.

I think I will try this with a new casing and see how it goes compared to the flat approach. I'll post my findings later.

this is why fanning teks come in handy, if you fan your shrooms the co2 will be easily replaced with fresh oxygen and it will be a while before it is replaced again... i wouldnt worry about it...

Yeah, I realize that... but for people who don't use the fanning tek for one reason or another, it could be a cheap way to help the problem. Just a little thought that came to mind thats all.
