That sounds fine... but yes, substrate can be too deep.

In the mushroom cultivator, it says that myc. can draw nutrients from substrated up to 2 ft deep. This is not optimal, however, as 2 ft of substrate would take a long time to colonize.

For practical purposes, what is the maximam depth of substrate? Is it related to the surface cropping area?

Mo's outdoor tek calls for half a foot. I think the substrate needs air exchange at some point. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to stick a broom handle into the patch and take it out after a week. Then you could have a hole going down to the core for increased surface area and air exchange. But honestly, I have never done this and I don't know what I am talking about. Just a guess.

not a bad idia but it migh cause a bug problem, i am thinking of maybe makeing the bun airy with perlite if air exchange is the problem

6 maybe 8inches deep maximum over a large area would be optimal.
you need a lot of surface area to support alot of pins.

woud'nt deeper substraight increase amount of flushes and fruit size, pinning being equal deep substraight means more nutes per fruit imo, but please elaborate as to why you think that is optimal
