Spore germination

Hey, I’m working on my first grow. I inoculated 5 dishes of oat water agar on 26 OCT with PE6 from a spore print. They’ve been in the lab at 78f since then with no signs of germination or contamination. How long should it take before I see signs of life?

how long has it been? average for first sign is 3-5 days but wait for up to two weeks. Are the spores fresh or old?

The plates were inoculated 26 OCT, so 6 days now. Spore print was from freespores and used the day after it arrived, so I assume it’s fairly fresh. If it may take two weeks, I guess I’m in good shape. I’m definitely pleased to see zero signs of contamination so far!

Sometimes things just don’t work out, even with fresh spores. A few months back, I put Huautla spores to 8 plates from a trusted vendor syringe. Not a single one germinated. I said fuck it, expanded my syringe with a couple more cc’s of sterile water and knocked up 10 brf jars. All turned out great. I’d wait the 2 weeks, but if there’s no signs of life after a week, there probably won’t be. But who knows, stranger things have happened

Gotcha. They have a 30 day guarantee, so I think they’ll send another print if this one fails.

For some reason, spores from a syringe do not germinate well on agar. OP should see signs of life any day now. Don't start worrying unless it's been more than 2 weeks.

I was aware they didn’t do that great, but I was expecting a little better results than 0 for 8, lol.

The spores also bunch up so shake well before inoculating

The OP is working off a print, not a syringe.

Man I had the same thing happen with Huautla but only with MEA, been like 28 days lol. I wonder if Huaulta just doesn't like going from spores to agar.

It’s been two weeks now with no growth, so I’m going to contact freespores for a replacement. I’m assuming they’ll honor their guarantee and send a viable replacement.

Freespores never responded so it looks like I’m just out the money for the bad spore print. Do you guys have any suggestions for a reputable vendor?

Check the market place. Surely someone there will trade you something. Post up there what your looking for if there isn't anything up yet.
