How do you find out which has trich added?

Ah, didn't check really. I bought 70 liter coir cube like that but different company a few weeks ago in prep to monotubs I will eventually (not very soon) have. I couldn't find any info on whether I have one that has trich in it though.

Was just wondering if theres some quick-ish way to find out without throwing precious colonized grain at it and seeing how it goes.

Either way it is very good that I saw this now. At least I know trich can already be inside so I go test it out with some flour or something like that.

Haha, into the trash can it goes.
I wonder if mine has it as well. I'm gona call the company I bought it from.

wtf, dude, just sterilize it. Don't throw it away. Get it to FC, load it into big jars, and throw it in your PC. As I said, shit for plants will often have trich in it, but shit for animals won't. Either way, PC will kill everything.

Sorry I wasn't serious. I won't be throwing mine away even if it had trich. Does it have to be pressure cooker or could I get away by loading it into a big pot and cook it for 2 hours at boiling temp considering its 70 liters?

OK. Thanks for the information. Found a brick laying around in the basement, but I guess I'm not using it for mushrooms..

That coir is so expensive @ £3/650g (£55/12kg), 12kg-(30L) of paper pellets is £11 (see here), 12kg-(50L) of coir is £17 (see here).

It requires more enrichment than coir, but otherwise has other beneficial features. The pH is higher, around 7.5 or more.
The fact that the lignin and phenols are removed reduces contamination chances, with noticeable effect.

Cubensis decays the cellulose, my grows where enriched to around 2% nitrogen, up from 0.2%.
Spawn must be used as the paper pellets contain almost no soluble carbon sources.

Coir does hold slightly more water than paper pellets, but they are close.

A cheap digital pH pen (UK/EU) that I got on eBay a few years ago, works on wet substrates as much as liquids.
Paper indicators are not very good, the paper is usually not white (yellow), which is silly.

My pen came with calibration powders, and can be adjusted (screwdriver).

The Josex Poke is pretty crazy, people are doing unmodified lids often, Micropore tape has replaced Polyfil for many people in their tubs, and MudaFuka unfortunately passed away recently. Glad to see you back, brother. I hope you're as good as you can be.

What...MudaFuka passed away...must have happened while I was gone cause this is the first I'm hearing of this...damn he was a good dude

I use soluble elemental salts, which contain no bacteria, and are both clean and easy to use (see here).
Otherwise use bran or anything else used in gourmet, I have not tried mixing in manure yet.

I 'guess', 50-50, 66-33, paper-manure should work, depending on the manure.

If you use a gourmet method, you will need to be aseptic.

coir sold as a gardening supply will usually have trich added, because plants love it

pet stores that sell reptile items will carry non treated coir bricks for use as bedding in their terrariums.

Indeed, the trich mycelium will be secreting enzymes that decay the coir, producing solubles to absorb.
Trich can also facilitate seeds, by decaying their shell (if) and releasing the nutrients.

The plant embryo will also secrete enzymes to decay the seed, this is normal.

Plants don't seem to secrete much of a variety of enzymes, although they produce a variety.
If I remember correctly plants secrete proteases the most, cant remember though.

Note: Plant's also benefit from the release of soluble sugars in a media.

I don't like this one little bit.  Trich added to coir?

Ive been using this one...

Its sold at a garden store.  Been no issues so far.  Well, one triched out after first flush but the rest didn't trich out at all after several flushes.

Nearly all TC's say bedding, however if correctly pasteurized the trich should be very dead.
I bet that some brands modify it further for plants, maybe even add acidity.

The bedding will be the safest bet, less variated.
