First cakes, first shoeboxes, first grow I am growing at slightly lower temperatures due to winter being here. Roughly 65 degrees
2 Malabar shoeboxes Spawned Oct 22nd 1:2 coir ratio 1 pint of brf Birth have pseudo casing One put right into fruiting The other lid locked for colonization First signs of sub colonization 24th Haven't noticed much of a difference in colonization (although I am a noob)
Box A

Box B

Nov 1st I think I'm just noticing knots appearing 10 days after spawning.
1 mazatec shoebox Spawned Oct 23rd 1:1 coir ratio 1 pint brf Light paeudocasing Right into fruiting

3rd maztec shoebox Spawned Oct 26th 1:2 coir ratio 1.5 pints brf Light paeudocasing Closed lid Oct 28th colonizing slower than other tubs, maybe more coir used than I thought
I'm going to wait to see first pins to pop lid no pics yet.
Please comment if you spot anything that seems off. Still learning what good surface conditions look like and feeling the groove of the mushroom growing thing. Any criticism is good criticism
Things I could have done better -initial sterlile Tek was wonky, didn't have holes in my sab, decided to expirement and did half my brf jars outside of the sab (and so losing half my jars haha, teks are here for a reason) -moved jars too much (enthusiasm, haven't touched new jars at all) -could have made the sub more level in the tubs -better lighting, currently only have 1 5000k lightbulb (led "daylight")
I'll continue to update as things progress, hopefully pins start to come in soon!!! Very excited and already plan on doing multiple edible mushroom varieties in the near future.

Shits looking good to me so far! Congrats for your first time.
I still haven't made an actual SAB. I just use a 66L tub flipped upside down and push enough of it over the edge to fit my hands up inside. I just make sure to clean EVERYTHING around really well and also to turn off my ac/heat so theres less air circulation. Hasnt failed me too badly yet! Haha

Yeah I tried using it over the edge of the table, but I loaded it up with 12 jars and was cramped and bumped it around. Cut some holes in it with a Dremel and now it's much easier to use.

Yeah dremel tool for the win! So much easier then trying to use a drill. Seems you've done your research!

First major pins!

Looks like my 1:1 ratio shoebox isn't liking it's surface conditions.

I think the condensation from the shoebox near the Gap is causing these side pins, maybe the lack of extra water from the sub is causing it. Not sure hut keeping an eye on it and learning what good surface conditions are like. Weary about misting when there is knots and pins but if mushrooms get pouring rain on them in the wild a light misting can't hurt
