It blew my mind what people want rid of, and then often rid of to the point that you can come get it for free or a token sum if you take it and leave no mess.

Even whole kitchen interiors because "the color is wrong".

A lot of "second hand" stuff is at 95+% the quality it had when new but at half the price or way less.

I used to spend a lot of time dumpster diving.

I really, really miss it.  I ate better as a kid in my early 20s than I have at any time in my life.

It was very common to come home with 50+ ripe avocados.

One of my favorite dumpsters was the local Liquor distro and bottling plant.  Very easy to get 30+ mislabeled wine bottles in a night.  A buddy saved up wine forever burying it in the woods.  He had a massive bum/ train hopper party under this bridge where 50+ dirty kids got massively smashed.

In retrospect, some people def got hep c that night :lol:

Year: 1995

Age: 11

Place: class trip to public swimming pool (weekly trips for swimming lessons)

Midway through the lesson, I went to my locker in the men's change room for some reason.  I was having difficulty pulling my door open because the door had some damage and was sort of bent.  I put two hands on it and reefed on it.  What I, or anyone else, didnt know, was that the entire wall of lockers somehow lost many of its bolts, that keep it restrained to the wall.  I dont know if it was because a loss of integrity in the wall itself, or what...but the entire row of lockers, fell on top of me.

6 or so feet high, and about 20 feet or more, of lockers came toppling down to the ground.  I managed to back up just enough so my head didnt get smashed.  But that didnt stop my head from smashing on the hard tile floor when they crashed down on me.

So here I am, alone, pinned and in pain.

I began screaming for help and after about 5 minutes some older woman employee trepidly poked her head around the entrance into the men's change room. 

She freaked out and looking back, the look on her face was priceless :lol:  she tried to lift it off but couldn't.  She ran for help and a group of 4 or so men came and got it off me.

Ambulance came and I stayed the night in the hospital.  Fractured a rib, and torn/bruised ligaments all over my body.

The city gave me $1700 to be held in a trust until I was 19.

I'm sure my parents could have fought in court for more, but we were poor and it wasnt an option.

No wonder I have difficulty swimming even to this day :lol:

My father lost me in the ocean due to a large breaking wave hitting us when I was 6 months old.
He said he finally found me washed up on shore about 5 minutes later.
Good thing babies float well.

To this day my mother has no clue that ever happened.

And to this day, 9 years clean I still feel really ashamed about having put a really good person that was in love with me through that.
