Skeptics
    #2557911 - 04/14/04 04:37 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I really do not approve of all the people who are skeptics.

Skeptics think Space is finite.

Skeptics think God does not exist.

Skeptics always try to draw people from there own faith.

Skeptics are close minded.

Skeptics will not have belief in anything till "they see it".

Anyways I am glad too see a lot of freedom thinking people on this forum.

Wow...
Skeptics don't really have fixed opinions on everything you've just listed.

1. I'm not sure if space is finite or not, expanding or contracting, empty or full (of dark matter).
2. I'm not sure if God exists or not. But if he's around, he's real good at hide and seek.
3. Faith? Faith in SELF? What's wrong with that?
4. Really? Well, next time you look at the moon, realize that close-minded skeptics put a man on it.
5. Okay, well next time you're thinking about jumping out your window and landing in a sea of marmalade, just do it. I'm sure I'll be missing out.
6. Yeah, "freedom thinking" people are... wait.... what the hell does that mean? Freedom from grammar?

..... do we really need to play the "apply general labels to people" game?

I really do not approve of all the people who are skeptics.

That includes the entire world and is merely a statement about you and not "them", whoever "they" are.

Doesnt a true skeptic reserve judgment on an issue? If you form an opinion one way or the other then u cease to be a skeptic.
People who believe in big foot could claim that those who dont are skeptics, and many would except that as true. but those who maintain that the belief in big foot is false could claim that those who disagree are skeptics, but that wouldnt make as much sense to many people. So isnt a true skeptic simply one that is reserving judgment?

Sincerely,
That which is, and has no choice but to be.

yeah watch the generalities but...
i one problem i have isnt that skeptics 'dont believe until they see something' but rather that they make no effort to look...
this sounds like wishy washy new agey shit i know but
i would have called myself a skeptic once. I had lost all faith in my inhereted faith (some wierd mix of judaism and christianity) and was essentially an angry rouge (lol not as in the colour red... damn spelling) stoner for a while. But i had an intuition if you will that there was more to the world than i had been shown, so i took it upon myself to find out what it was.

You need to actively seek the spiritual experience, not just sit back and wait for it to happen. Skeptic mindsets have many advantages: there are LOTS of scam artists and nuts out there and they must all be analyzed before you buy into there BS. However , thats only half the game.

When i started meditating that was the first step, and in meditation mystical experience is revealed to you directly. However, if i had never taken the first step of sitting and calming my mind to enter that receptive state...

i might not be the person i am today

and we all know that would be a godam shame

I really do not approve of all the people who are believers.

Believers think that space is infinite.

Believers think God does exist.

Believers always try to draw people to there (sic) own faith.

Believers are close minded.

Believers will believe in anything, even when facts dictate otherwise.

Yum... I love generalizations.

Yet another false assumption.
