My 1st Attempt EVER "Cloning" Cubes

SO I took a few of my biggest bestest fruits from my last bulk grow and placed them in my Flow Box. I carefully ripped them apart exposing the inside of the mushroom fungus then plucked a park of the newly exposed fungus from the inside of the stem with a flame sterilized tool using my homemade alcohol lamp

and placed the plucked pieces into a sterilized rye jar. BTW the tools I used to "pluck" the parts of the fungus from the stem were zit popping tools I got on Wish.com

Its been over a week and there's growth in almost all 5 jars I tried this with no signs of undesirables.
What do you guys with more experience think of my method? What are the real benefits to cloning a mushroom? I will be using these jars to do g2g so we will see where this goes. I think I'm gonna do a shake in a few days.

My little experience say that shaking is not the best , or at list not until when are very colonized . I experienced a slow growing after shaking.
Cloning a mushroom you’ll get the same mushroom you had before. After many cloning you’ll loose  quality.

I didnt know you can make a clone from just placing tissue into a grain jar. That's pretty neat. I thought placing it into agar was the best way. Also I've read you should wait until it's like 30% colonized before shaking.

I have been growing bulk since o4 I'm no newb just newb to cloning. I know the basics and then some even was the first to try a few things if you look over my history here. just never found much interest to go past MS inoculated LC's before. I believe agar allows you to be very sure what you have is straight up the fungus you are seeking. Its a 2d plane so you can place a something with contams and the "good" mycelium will grow along with contams but its a 2d plane so as long as you cut the section of the "desired" fungus from the agar you then put that on more agar until ur sure its a pure growth you want then you can start growing ur stocks up for larger innocs.


basically, as I understand Agar is esp good for isolating out contams but not limited to just that. I just dont know enough yet and what I do know is sitting here lurking and reading all the great shroomers posts over the last 15 years and since I was not reading the stuff over the years on topics like this my knowledge on the subject is a weird format in my head if that makes sense to you guys and I would hope it would cause ur here just like im here cause we're all weird in the same ways :yesnod:

I also need to be more clear on my shake comment. I should have said "at the rate its colonizing now, I think it will be ready to shake in a few days" not "I think I'm gonna do a shake in a few days." the growth was slow at first but now that it's going ITS GOING. Its like when you do a MS innoc, it takes a few days to see any signs but once you do the mycelium takes off like a rocket sort of like how if you have ever MS innoced a rye jar it might take 4 days to see growth but then 3 or 4 ddays after growth has shown healthy signs of growth they will then be about ready for there first shake. The pictures do not show very well the extent of the growth in the jars either. My camera is fucked so I have to take pics with my selfie cam and another camera that has no flash. But yes jars should be 30 % or more colonized in a few days :wink:

I wouldn't suggest anyone new to growing should copy what im doing  or consider it standard practice. this is me trying out stuff because I spend 400 bucks on a flow box and now I need to play with it but since I spent all my money I can't afford agar :rofl:

Agar is cheap as fuck!  Look at chinese groceries and make sure theres no sugar added.

Same here. Never even thought of it although it makes sense. I did a clone to agar and never noticed any bacteria or anything so while still riskier, it looks like its fine so long as you carefully take a sample from the guts of the fruit.

As for shaking its not recommended but I like to try shaking a little to bury whatever sample I inoculated with. Goes faster that way. Just have to try not to get it stuck on the lid or something.

cloning to agar will save you time in the long run.  multiple agar wedges = already organized myc, more innoc points = faster colonization . + once u find out that your jar contam'd weeks later you'll have a surplus of  clean clone culture to go back to since you will have xfered to several more dishes before going to grain.  it sucks when the perfect clone from the perfect fruit is lost because u only made 1 jar

could clones lose their genetics if they are cloned off another clone? or would the genetics mix together in some way?

i'll be interested to see how this goes for you. putting inner flesh straight to grain will work fine IF everything is done perfectly. I'd strongly recommend getting some agar going though. it's not hard at all to end up with a little something else when cloning in the flow. by "flow box", what do you mean, FLow hood?

if you had 400 bones to drop on the flow you can certainly get some agar going. i'd imagine you can get some pasty plates going for about ten bucks. you can sub out malt for potatoes or dog food and get agar and a couple glad minis for almost nothing.
