ID Please - (Think they're Liberty Caps?)
    #2557554 - 04/14/04 02:31 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Found these today growing in paddock on Peninsula in Dunedin, NZ. Growing is sandy soil. Ranging from 10-20mm accross coming up to a distinct nipple. Ranging from light to dark brown, most quite sticky or gooey. Am doing spore print tonight. I'm pretty sure they are liberty caps but not 100% hence I need your help to ID these. Here are some pics:

They do look like Liberty Caps, BUT alot of posinous mushrooms look the same as non-posinous ones, so dont eat anything till your 100% sure, you eating something your not sure about might result in death.

Definitely liberty caps. Congradulations on your fine score.

mj

Keep spreading the spores.

Yip, I'm 100% sure now - which means....get some rest, fasten your seat belts, open the peanut butter jar. :nut:

On closer inspection, they bruise blue, some very noticeably blue. The spore print is chocolate brown with a tinge of purple. The spore print was quite faint with a couple so had to do again.

Thanks for the comments.

nice one

there are alot there to be found now - I have picked almost 1500 liberty caps in the past couple of days, taking the season total up to well over 5000 so far

Yesterday I picked a few nice PS. Subaeruginosa as well. I'm glad to see they're finally sprouting up. I also picked about 5 Ps. Makarorae but they were all old and eaten (like bart's dinner, or is that cold and eaten?  ) anyway I picked them and then back at the car just chucked them. They showed the most extensive bruising I've ever seen in a shroom - like when I picked them the caps went mostly all blue, which was quite cool to see.

I'll hopefully get a digital camera soon and go out and get some pics of them all in their natural environments - watch this space
