Coming from Ireland as a poor plumber and being a crazy shit talker brought in a lot of hype. Thats why Dana loves him. Because hes a hype man and hype = more sales.
Dana likes to keep his pocket fat. Conor is an elite fighter but clearly lacks in some dept's. Dana was probably devastated by his loss.

UFC got rid of one of the greatest fighters of all time simply because they failed to promote him properly. Dana White hated him.
Quote:
UFC have traded Demetrius Johnson to OneFC in exchange for Ben Askren. Dana White is planning to phase out the 125lbs flyweight division. Cejudo is moving up to fight Dillashaw, and after that it’ll be all over.
Has that been confirmed? I only see speculation. I have a hard time seeing them getting rid of a division when an easily promotable Olympic gold medalist is champion. It's not like there's a shortage of fighters for flyweight like there is with light heavyweight and heavyweight.
Also, this is probably yet another example of Dana White going back on his word. I'm pretty sure at some point he said that "Ben Askren will never fight in the UFC." Maybe not directly, but apparently he blocked him on Twitter.
Believe nothing Dana White says.

Trade is official. Dj has had a phone conference with ONE. Ben Askren has been on tv talking about the trade.

Yeah it's been official since yesterday, his manager announced it on social media.
We know he ain't gonna fight for the WW title as long as Woodley is champion cause they family practically. So for Askren I see only superfights, catch weight fights, and destroying the dreams of contenders in the top 5 at WW
He's had a career already and I feel were not gonna see him a bunch of times. Maybe 3 or 4 fights. But what the hell do a know

Retirement is not the right word.
Like half the UFC champions in the company's history, he beefed with Dana White. DJ got tired of working for people that mistreated him and also failed miserably at promoting him. DJ had also beaten just about every single top fighter in his division at least once. His recent loss to Henry Cejudo was a split decision that half the MMA world thought he'd won.
The UFC traded his ass to an organization that will likely show him a lot more respect. It certainly won't hurt that DJ's coach, Matt Hume, is an executive with ONE Championship.

To ufc's defense DJ was always hard to promote. He was never interested in calling anyone out, never had beefs never tried to get anyone excited about his fights. Love DJ to death just saying he didn't help in promoting himself as the top dog in any other way than scrapping like a God for 25min.

That just means they're not doing a good job of promoting. The promotion and promoter are supposed to do the promoting, and for some fighters, they going to need to do more than just playback videos of shit-talking, people throwing water bottles at each other, and chucking a dolly at a bus.
He wasn't a boring person that avoided the media. He has an interesting storyline of life, attends his media obligations, answers interview questions candidly and with enthusiasm, and connects with his fanbase via Twitch and other social media.
He was not going to be the next McGregor, but the UFC truly fucked up with DJ.
MMA is still a niche "sport," and the UFC is perfectly comfortable focusing their promotional efforts on low-hanging fruit, like the first female "do-nothing bitch" UFC champion and former WWE wrasslers.

But then you can't deny the fact that the average fight night even with hardly any top guys still draws more PPV and views than any DJ championship fight so what are you gonna do..

It has never been more annoying and expensive to be a UFC fight fan. Thanks to the UFC deal, you now have to deal with FOUR paid platforms in order to watch all the fights. ESPN+ for early pre-lims and main fight night cards. ESPN/cable for regular pre-lims on ESPN+ cards. UFC Fight pass for PPV early pre-lims. And of course pay per views.
So let's add that up:
- ESPN+ $5/mo
- ESPN $25/mo (for OTT service like Sling Orange)
- UFC Fight Pass $10/mo
- PPV $55 for standard def
So at a minimum, a hardcore UFC fan will be paying $95 a month to watch all the fights. Obviously more if you're doing high def.
Jesus fucking Christ. Kind of hope ESPN+ turns out to be a complete flop.

I can't be the only one who would like to see Conor McGregor fade off into the sunset at this point. I was delusionally excited at this latest retirement announcement. The UFC is fucking stupid if they give him a rematch against Khabib. He does not deserve a rematch against everyone who kicks his ass just because he's famous.
Also, Israel has not done a whole lot to deserve a title shot. Beating a 40+ year old Anderson Silva in non-dominant fashion doesn't count.
And the ESPN+ cards have been pretty swell. Three KO main event fights in a row, I believe. For the annual price of one UFC pay per view.

They're setting Conor up for a fight against the winner of Porier and Holloway. Notice Conor has beat both before, so whoever wins it's a good match up in that sense.
Max has grown and is on another level now, although I think Porier has a fair chance to catch him and finish the fight. A lot of weird things have happened lately so I won't be surprised.
Either way they're going to give McGregor the winner of that interim fight it's too obvious a set up.

Folks (DC, Bisping, Woodley, etc.) were acting baffled by the notion that she felt somewhat relieved to no longer be champion. As if she's first to mention the intensely stressful nature of champion... GSP, Anderson Silva, and Ronda Rousey have been open about the relief of being off the throne.
Rose has also been fairly public with her struggles with mental health. I can't imagine how much it must take a toll on you to be a UFC champion, especially with MH issues.
