Fruiting help
    #25569937 -

I have been misting and fanning my substrate and giving 9 hours of light a day. First, the mycelium came through the top long and fuzzy. Now it laying down and there are little white balls all over. Are these white balls ok? Are the patches of mycelium ok?

White balls are usually the start of mushrooms.

Wont be much longer...

Nice, what about the mycelium laying down? It kinda looks like a wet cotton ball but not saturated.

Those balls are hyphal knots. They are getting ready to take off buddy. Those will develop into pins.

It's been 5 days and noting happened yet. It actually looks like it stopped growing all together maybe. What should I do to get it to fruit?

You got hyphal knots every where man it shouldn't be too much longer. Just make sure there is plenty of FAE and it is not too dry in there. I don't see any polyfill holes in your pictures, are they out of frame or are you manually fanning or something?
Edit: also meant to ask what ratio you spawned at, that could be why it is taking longer if you did a 1:4 spawn to sub. My last tub was 1:4 and it took 10 days for my first pin to come in.

It was about 1:2 ratio. I don't have any polyfill holes and i now realize my tub is taller than needed too. Should I add some? it is a 15 quart tub.

Look up on here how to set up the holes, and yes you should have them because the mushrooms will grow long and skinny if they don't have proper FAE.

Can I use poly from an old pillow? I don't have any poly other than that.

Yes. You can also just flip the lid if you want more FAE

Micropore tape can work as well. Or you can just manually fan every few hours and probably get away with it. I have no experience in flipping the lid and letting it be so I couldn't tell you about that.

Fanning is unnecessary....flipping the lid is a perfect alternative...I do it all the time

I think he means flipping it so that it isn't completely sealed off

Keep us posted. It seems like you need a little more clarity between the colonization and fruiting stage, but you bulk sub still looks like it should fruit pretty well. I would say next time maybe put a layer of plastic over the bulk sub while it colonizes and let it get fully white and fluffy. that should keep the hyphal knots from forming prematurely. Your holes (which you didn't have at first but now you do) should be covered with tape during colonization. Then when it is fully colonized, you remove the tape and stuff with polypill. The increase in FAE causes hyphal knots, then primordia, then fruits! My first few tubs looked like yours and they fruited pretty well.

Also, try to hydrate your bulk sub enough that you don't even need to mist prior to the first flush. If it has good water retention to begin with, you shouldn't have to do much misting...maybe just fanning for FAE if needed.

good luck! Enjoy the harvest!

Finally, just 1 pin showed up. I don't know how to get it to pin. I think I need some advice. How long can it last without pin before mycelium dies?

Might need more FAE. Also, you don’t wanna use a foil liner....somewhere I read it can weaken the mycelium or something to that effect.

So, should I just take it out of the foil and put it directly in the tub? or on a bed of perlite? I'll add 2 more 4 cm holes on each side for FAE.

I would just put it directly in the tub...no liner required
