Grey contamination???
    #25569909 - 10/26/18 06:30 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

This one has been in the FC for about a week. I am a novice and made several mistakes on my first time around. At any rate, I had picked it up to check for pinning on the bottom (my first 2 fruited from the bottom) and saw this odd grey contamination. I assume it is a type of mold? The bottom was the top, I flipped them on the way into the FC after birth and a dunk and roll. Any idea what I am looking at for sure. Any chance I can cut them in half and save it since it seems to only be on the bottom (previously the top during incubation) of the fully colonized cake? I have tossed a number of them due to several mistakes as I mentioned earlier. I did pull over 100 wet grams off the first 2 cakes that were harvested this morning.

Pretty blurry in the photo..at the bottom of cakes you usually get fuzzy mycelium due to the humidity

So the Harvest off this cake wasn't that spectacular. It did end up fruiting from the bottom on the opposite side of what looked like the grey contamination. The shrooms look normal and didn't have signs of anything on them. If they are contaminated could they be dangerous to consume? The reason I ask is I took four different clone samples off the shrooms from this cake and put them on agar. The samples were taken from the inside piece of stem like RR videos head recommended. They all were contaminated. I did it in a sterile glove box but I didn't torch the scalpel between samples like I should have. Just before the first one. So I'm not sure if they all were bad or just the first one and I carried it over to the other three. Either way those shrooms are are now mixed in with the other cake I had that didn't show signs of contamination. If it's a type of mold how bad could it be to eat?
