For me it’s dealing with contamination. I love agar work though. But grain jars that get contaminated are a pain in the ass.

For me it's working with grains. I still haven't gotten down a prep that I like well enough. My agar work looks go to me, but it always looks bacterial by the time it colonizes grain. Gonna try venting for 15 minutes instead of 10 this next batch to see if it makes a difference for me.
Still tinkering with getting field capacity right too. I've dropped my water down to 3L on one brick of coir and it still seems to be above capacity.

Right now I'm using wheat. Tried oats too without much success.

Hm, oats have never done me wrong. What issues were you having with them? Were you following Bod's easy AF oat prep tek?

I fucking hate chopping straw! Before I started this new account and saw that everyone was using coir as a substrate I was chopping that shit by the bale and hating it. Switched to coir and haven't looked back.
But now if I want to incorporate straw I just buy it pre-chopped.

Orchelins sells chopped straw. Its more expensive, but still not too costly. StandLee is the manufacturer.

Wasting my time, not being able to grows damn thing, not enough space, working in a SAB, getting contaminations, never having time to try to grow, having to avoid doing any myc work around other people, dumping trash, riding with contaminated mycelium to the dump, frustration of not having lab, dealing with misinformation or outdated teks, all the money I spent without a mushroom to show for it, waiting for literally everything...I think I enjoyed making agar.
I love mushrooms, love the process but I’m really annoyed with the whole thing and kinda bitter.

If you want to learn to grow mushrooms, you can. Your first goal should be to identify the first step in the process where shit goes wrong. You haven't been at it for that long, so don't get stressed out. There's a lot to it. Just slow down and pick small goals.

Just turn the ventilation fan on and flush the contents down your toilet as soon as you see mold appear, assuming your talk about spawn jars and not PF. Delaying is what's going to turn it into a nightmare to deal with.

Pre-chopped straw is a thing? I use straw for oysters, coir for cubensis.

Tbh, I always just use a weed eater to chop straw. Thinking about buying a leaf blower, vacuum, mulcher with bag attachment. My biggest gripe is how messy and dusty it can be. Unfortunately, I don't think my yard/neighborhood is really compatible with chopping straw with a lawn mower.

Completely restarting from scratch. It's been a few years and several drastic life changes (few for the better) so getting started again is taking too damn long lol.
