What is the effect of psilocybin on the endocannabinoid system?
    #25565549 -

I'm trying to figure out if shrooms up or down regulate the endocannabinoid system, and I was wondering if anyone knows.

As many of you likely know, regular use of cannabis down regulates the endocannabinoid system, which leads to all kinds of nasty side effects, and I think there's a chance that shrooms may be able to up regulate it again.

I read a study that found that antipsychotics up regulated the endocannabinoid system, and psychedelics are functionally very similar to a lot of antipsychotics.

If anyone is wondering why one would want to up regulate their endocannabinoid system, anandamide, an endocannabinoid, is the primary neurotransmitter that is responsible for happiness and wellbeing. In fact, I wonder if this is the mechanism by which psychedelics are effective at treating depression. They know that psychedelics down regulate certain serotonin receptors and that somehow makes people happier. I just wonder if down regulating those serotonin receptors up regulates the endocannabinoid system, increasing anandamide and thereby making people feel better?

As far as i know, Serotonergic Psychedelics don't interact with the endocannabinoid system. Also Psychedelics are like the opposite of anti-psychotics, anti-psychotics block off Serotonin, Dopamine and other receptor sites, antagonization, Psychedelics on the other hand are agonists or partial agonists for those receptors, thereby activating/agonizing them rather than antagonizing them.

I myself though have been interested in the possibility of endocannabinoid reuptake inhibitors or enhancers or what not, they say the metabolite of Tylenol (AM404) has some interaction with the endocannabinoid system iirc, dunno if it'd do anything worth experimenting around with though.
