Whomsoever wrote that wiki enty, this is for you...

The goal is to PASTEURIZE the food. Not STERILIZE the food. Pasteurization and sterilization are 2 different procedures. In order to do well in this hobby, it's best that you learn the difference between the 2 procedures and how to properly carry them out.
The bucket tek takes the temp up PAST pasteurization temps.
To pasteurize your temps need to be at least 140f for an hour then cooled quickly. You don't want temps getting over 160f.
"Hot as hell" is better suited to describe the weather.

wrong.
It only needs to be held at temp for an hour. 170f is on the top end of acceptable pasteurization.

What's the harm in 2? If it successfully heats the whole thing for the correct time.

There is no harm in 2 hours but only 1 hour is needed.
That being said.
Doubling your prep time if you have multiple runs you need to make on the same equipment back to back...
might not be the best use of time.

Proper procedure will carry over to your other endeavors as well. With other materials going for too long, too hot, or similar can cause chemical changes or over cooking of the substrate making it unusable in some cases or less than ideal for mushroom cultivation. In the case of grain it can burst or over hydrate which will make it easier for contaminates to penetrate the grain in your grows. Deviating from the norm is encouraged as you become more experienced as people are always looking for the next best thing, but when you are new sticking to the railroad while you learn is best practice.

Gotcha! Imma stick with those two from here on out.
OK, I ended up misting my tub earlier this evening. It developed a couple holes in the mycelium, I figure it's cause my weak sauce spawn ratio. I've got the lid flipped and ajar to allow for more FAE. Let's see what comes of these 2 tubs.

Just finished another batch of sub, no coffee this time...lol Cooking it in the cooler overnight, got some cakes that Imma shred into shoeboxes tomorrow!!

Got 6 plates nocc'd up last night, Imma have fun with these little projects.

Keep me busy until I get where I wanna be on the plates. So happy to be working with agar. Very cool stuff!

Next up will be BIG batches of spawn jars!!

Thanks everyone for all the help!

Imma hold off on anything that I need to pasteurize. At least till I get some experience with the basics.

Fingers crossed, I will definitely learn from this tub. So in a way, all is not lost if I have to toss it.
Just got done with the 2 shoeboxes, no coffee just coir and verm. I'm digging the ratio and decided to do a top layer on both tubs. The B+ MS syringe went to work on them cakes. I think these have a good shot.

Well, I leaned somn... DON'T STRAY FROM THE TEK...

They went from looking OK, to looking like shit...

I also learned that I did not correctly pasteurize my sub and I will never put coffee in it again...
Lesson learned, on to the next tubs!!

Does suck to have all that time locked up into somn that was doomed from the start, and I was the one to sabotage it.

A1 Tek ...
thank you! Looks easy enough. Will have to give this a go when I move onto other subs.
Well, I'm back on the horse. Shoeboxes this time, at least till I get my agar game tight. Then I will get back to grains and big tubbing it.
Here's where I'm at... Just coir: 2 Fiji's, one is 2 1/2 cakes, the other is a 1lb grain bag that was a very slow colonizer. The bag didn't come close to looking like the first bag I had, although both seem to be doing well.

Coir&verm: 2 B+'s, spawned the 26th. I think they look perty good for 6 days in. Both with 2 1/2 cakes. I ended up using a 1/4-1/2" top layer on all of them this go round.

Thanks for all the feedback, I've started to mist without hesitation when I believe my sub looks dry. I think these are keepers, time will tell...
