Gymnopilus?

] [/url]Found some fruits growing on some dead wood logs. I am pretty sure they are gymnopilus of some sort, but need more input.caps are fleshy feeling, slippery even where they are still moist. They smell earthy... (although they do smell of rotten wood, kind of) they are not bruising blue, but a brown color, which I am reading that doesn't mean much with this species. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you. Edit: can't figure out how to post a pic with my post, so pics will likely be in my profile section until I figure it out.

Those arent gymnopilus, that sporeprint looks brown. Maybe hypholoma is a better fit for those. Maybe even pholiota. I'm sure a TI will be around shortly. But I'd compare it to both of those while ya wait.

Thank you, I appreciate the quick response. I was a little suspect they may have been pholiota when I seen the scaly stalk, but found a few pics of the gymnopilus with the same thing. I will look into them furtger, believe me, I'm not eating them unless I'm 1000 percent sure they are what I think they are. haha

Make a better spore print on aluminum foil. Let the cap sit overnight. Seeing that spore color will help tremendously bud
Edited to add: yeah what doctorG said

Yup, pholiota as the good doctor has already stated.
