It is possible to 'relive' any events that one has experienced from intrauterine life (theoretically) to the present. More powerful is the ability to 'revivify' an event during which the subject is not observing like a movie, but is deeply involved in the inner action. Some people advertise 'past life regression,' claiming that one can relive past lives. I do not advertise or offer this, but, if in trance, someone says that his problem began in the year 1412, I don't argue, I merely proceed to 'excise' the problem. The subconscious, a twilight zone between consciousness and the unconsious, draws from the unconscious. It may well 'clothe' itself in images from the same creative source that our dreams are evolved from.

It is difficult enough to sort fantasy from memory, let alone metaphysics from physics. Moreover, Westerners do not grasp the profound nature of human subjectivity, and still believe in a pre-19th century idea of 'pure objectivity' which can be viewed from a human perspective. This is like the pre-Einsteinian notion of 'absolute time.' And then, again, people confuse psychophysical constructs with metaphysical constructs, like - I am a soul that changes bodies like we change clothes. That is a Hindu idea. The Buddhists don't believe in this reincarnation theme, they believe in rebirth. In Hinduism there is the Atman, in Buddhism there is the Anatman, or Annata (in Pali) which means that there is NO Atman (soul). In Buddhism, the apparent continuity of a soul or self from moment-to-moment is an illusion like a reel of movie film - one still shot after another giving the illusion of motion. So, which is it? Most Westerners get the Hindu idea, and everyone is Cleopatra or some person who is clearly 'archetypal' in nature: a warrior, a king, a princess, a magician, etc., never some lice-infested Middle Ages peasant with the plague. This illustrates that people are encountering the Collective Unconscious and identifying these contents with their personal egos. They are not accessing past lives. Hypnotists who make money off of gullible people are just the magicians and charlatans of the present age - unethical and deceptive IMHO.

I've been thinking about this thread, ever since it was posted. I don't think I can post my credentials, because I don't think having a degree makes one a "scholar".

schol?ar ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sklr)
n.

A learned person.
A specialist in a given branch of knowledge: a classical scholar.
One who attends school or studies with a teacher; a student.
A student who holds or has held a particular scholarship.

scholar

\Schol"ar\, n. [OE. scoler, AS. sc[=o]lere, fr. L. scholaris belonging to a school, fr. schola a school. See School.] 1. One who attends a school; one who learns of a teacher; one under the tuition of a preceptor; a pupil; a disciple; a learner; a student.

2. One engaged in the pursuits of learning; a learned person; one versed in any branch, or in many branches, of knowledge; a person of high literary or scientific attainments; a savant. --Shak. Locke.

3. A man of books. --Bacon.

4. In English universities, an undergraduate who belongs to the foundation of a college, and receives support in part from its revenues.

Syn: Pupil; learner; disciple.

scholar

n 1: a learned person (especially in the humanities); someone who by long study has gained mastery in one or more disciplines [syn: scholarly person, student] 2: someone (especially a child) who learns (as from a teacher) [syn: learner] 3: a student who holds a scholarship

See, I can see Markos being considered a scholar, and those who are still pursuing their degrees, but for some of us who have obtained degrees, it was with the specific purpose in mind of engaging in a professional career.

I don't think that going to school to obtain a degree in order to practice law or medicine makes one a scholar.

The only thing I think I learned with my 10 years of college, is that it's going to take me one hell of a long time to pay off 38k in student loans!
