Psilocybe mammillata is probably actually Psilocybe heimii, which is probably the same as Psilocybe banderillensis.  Psilocybe tampanensis turned up in Florida recently, see this sequence.  When it was found in Atlantia it was re-described as P. atlantis, with the name P. tampanensis having priority because it is older.

What about the supposed connection between P. tampanensis and P. mexicana? Still applicable?

Psilocybe mexicana:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/KY867548

Comparison between Psilocybe mexicana and P. tampanensis in the ITS gene.  They are 5 - 6 bases different.

All of the sequences from USA material have been P. tampanensis, and all of the sequences from Mexico have been P. mexicana.  The cap in P. mexicana seems to be more brown and more striate.  Both produce sclerotia in culture.
