My last flush were a bit different. I had only 1 mushroom and 2 in the other box. The 3rd one I didn't setup because it got all green in mold last flush. I guess these boxes might be coming to an end, this is the 3rd harvest of these 2.

I left them for 2 days, they were still quite small when I left them and when I checked them today they were brutal and all opened up.

My question is, do these ones even look eatable? I never had these big ones before and only been eating cap closed or cap just opened shrooms. I also suspect they are not healthy since it was so few shrooms?

But how about now that they are opened and released their spores, does that increase the chance of next flush being a big one? I guess I will put them in water for 12h and see if there is still some life in these boxes.

Methanol, ethanol. And isopropyl will all work in an alcohol lamp

I figured as much (both are sold for stoves), just curious about the differences of each concentration if anyone knows. Google says methanol burns cleanest, so that's nice. I know zero about chemistry, fumes, volatility, etc., so prefer to ask before I burn open flames. Everything I read, including the sticker on my lamp, say 95% only. But I guess both would be denatured in this mixture so whatever. Going to go load the lamp up. Thanks.

It only reads that because 95 burns best

And it's much more expensive to make alcohol higher than ~95% because the mixtures become azeotropic. To get higher you need to make the alcohols rather than distil them or use molecular sieves

Right, I was questioning the %'s on the MSDS mostly, likely because I misinterpreted denaturing. The presence of methanol is what denatures the ethanol, so the ratios are probably irrelevant as they both burn. The version I bought, which is 30-50% ethanol and 40-60% methanol, has a much higher % of methanol. So I guess it'd just be more poisonous to drink or something.

Man, I bought a gallon of this shit. I hope the 3 months shelf life is marketing.

I feel like there should be a rule that if you claim your house's high sporeload is the reason for your failure rate, you have to post a video of an SAB session and detail your grain/agar/whatever prep. I know it's more palatable to blame external, uncontrollable factors, but if your goal is to get better at MC, stop deluding yourself and consider that maybe it's your game that needs work. Even if your situation is worse than average, you can still make improvements and adjust.

This is not directed at anybody in particular.

Okay.  So I have a room that's just got a wood burning stove room that feeds heat into my basement thru a fan.

Could I get one of those hanging mesh screen (the ones for bud) to dry mushrooms while I wait for the dehydrator to free up.

It gets about 115-120 Max.  And obviously dry as Fuck.

I guess I'm more asking if this would be a fire hazard more than anything. The mesh screen that is.

Just make sure its a metal screen  it should be fine, but i wouldn't risk it to put a plastic screen over that

A relative of mine got a horse a few months ago, they brought round some horse dung, which I wasn't ready for and was left outside.
The container has filled with rain water, and without stirring or any disturbing, there is a serious amount of water solubles.

I am wondering if anyone has used the solubles mixed with coir, as hydration water, and then pasteurized?
There is no smell coming from the mixture, there is also no flies that I can see.

----

In addition, the pile of horse dung which this sample was taken from, is piled up around dead tree trunks, chunks, logs and branches.
My relative informs me that they have seen various types of mushrooms fruiting, one which sounded like semilanceata.

I hope to take images the next time they see more of the same type, or other types.

Edit: semilanceata not serbica, my mistake.

Woke up to find some mold growing in the corner of one of my shoeboxes.  The substrate is the pre-pasteurized mix from ****.  I haven’t been misting.  Do I need to increase FAE and is there anything I can do about the mold?

Thanks in advance!

You can toss it out before it gets worse and harder to clean.

Well shit.  Is the condensation from a lack of FAE?  There’s no mold growing from the bottom up that I can see.  Had to toss the jar I did as an experiment due to green mold yesterday as well.

Had to do some emergency transfers yesterday as well bc some of the plates I did in the last batch were poured too hot.  Started off with heavy condensation then started getting mold and bacteria around the edges of the agar.

This was my best looking transfer to date but spotted a pink bacteria growing on it at the 12 o’clock position.

Go back to basics. Are you wrapping your plates? That agar looks great. Don't buy anything premade. Make your own

Shits finally legal here in Canada. Went on a splurge and bought Sativa's kush and indica. Tried out sativa today before class at school cause it's legal at designated spots. Finally Canada is being awesome, but still pretty cold lol

edit: shit i guess this belongs in OTD lol.. Carry on.

I'm trying new nitrile gloves and they're the right kind, latex, powder free, etc. But I just started my SAB session and realized I couldn't stretch the parafilm to a plate. My hands were still slippery/wet from the iso, which 100% should've been dry. I examined the gloves and it looked like little bits of soap were coming off of it. I tried 2 new pairs and same thing. I examined my iso, nothing out of the ordinary. Any clue anybody? I'll try and snap pics later.

Mos def.  I enjoy making my own agar.  On this one particular batch I poured too hot and wrapped it too soon.  Almost looked like is was raining in some of the plates.  This plate looked good from the start though. :justdontknow:

Poured some more yesterday and made sure it was around 117F then waited 2 hours before wrapping.  I always make 2 batches of GSA at a time.  One for immediate use and one to use at a later date.  Every time I reheat it though I have problems with clumping....  Keep checking the temp and shaking but never fails I end up with a handful of clumpy plates.

I’ve been cleaning my SAB with 70/30 ISO mix prior to using it then mist with soapy water in between every few trays or when I change species.  Scalpel or loop is resting in ISO and I’m torching them before each use.  Even started changing my blade/loop more frequently.

I’ll get it down.  Just sucks that I didn’t have any issues with my first couple batches and this one got screwed up.  All part of the learning process though.  Not going to let it discourage me.  Ordered 500 more plates the other day:).

Thanks Tryp :toast:

Weird. It didn't happen until halfway through the box either. I'm just going to head to HD an buy the HDX I usually get. It's impossible to wrap plates with them so I ain't even gonna try dealing.

Never used anything other than powder free. I wonder if other gloves have shit on them and they mixed them up. Amazon reviews say they've received different sizes in boxes before.
