Need some help.  Have a couple plates I inoculated with a Pan. Cyan print.  There’s obvious mold but I’ve never seen what Panaeolus myc looks like.  Can any of these be transferred or should I scrap them and start over?

Thanks!

Well you can practice your transfer procedure, take a tiny outlier of a colony and stick it into another dish.. heck do multiple transfers.
The mold might come with it but its good practice.. if it does come with it you can transfer again, see if you can get away.

I don't have any brown rice flour at the moment, I would have to make it. Easier to ask :P

Thanks Gizmodo,

I wanted to do transfers but didn’t know if there was anything worth saving.  Is Panaeolus myc fluffy like this?

Mycelium in my experience with psychadelic varieties can be kind of fluffy.. though sometimes I see things that go on I question.
A mold, not all molds obviously, tends to fluff up extremely fast and spreads throughout the entire dish sometimes within a 24 hour period.
The pictures you provided don't allow me to see very well in clarity but the white circular colonies look surely like mycelium.
That doesn't mean there's no contaminates hiding below those though, still worth transferring to clean it up.

So I ordered a new 24x24 HEPA filter. $110 with free shippong, expected to deliver next week. I think it has a 2000CFM rating.

It's just the filter. I have to build the assembly. I just need to shop for a blower fan doohickey then pick up some basic construction materials for the build. If anybody has any reccomendations to consider in regards to the blower I appreciate your support.

What % efficiency? 99.99 or 99.97??

Everyone recommends squirrel cage blowers because they do better under pressure. But for smaller filters an inline blower could do fine since you can get a pretty strong one for quite cheap.

Another post got me to wondering, why does polyfil work for lid filters?  Do particles stick to it and can’t get through?  Is there something in it that kills or stops bacteria?  I have learned that micro pore tape will let in more contams than polyfil.  Obviously it is there for FAE so air gets through...

So why polyfil?

I use polyfil, I like it and will continue to use it but I’m just curious.  I did try to research and found all the comparisons but not why polyfil specifically.

the complexity of the fiber matrix create a decent filter. plus its synthetic so doesn't grow molds.

I don't know for sure, it was an ebay purchase. I guess I will have to wait to be certain. For now I will peruse squirrel cages.

People have used MP for jar filters before with great results, although I don't. Poly can be used for many things and also allows air exchange, but prevents mold spores and such from falling through.

You ever seen those play things for kids with a bunch of elastic bands in a grid pattern to climb on? Imagine that like Polyfil. There's huge gaps in between each band, but with enough of them stacked, children can only fall so far before being caught and stuck. A tightened wad of Poly is like that, I believe.

My last flush were a bit different. I had only 1 mushroom and 2 in the other box. The 3rd one I didn't setup because it got all green in mold last flush. I guess these boxes might be coming to an end, this is the 3rd harvest of these 2.

I left them for 2 days, they were still quite small when I left them and when I checked them today they were brutal and all opened up.

My question is, do these ones even look eatable? I never had these big ones before and only been eating cap closed or cap just opened shrooms. I also suspect they are not healthy since it was so few shrooms?

But how about now that they are opened and released their spores, does that increase the chance of next flush being a big one? I guess I will put them in water for 12h and see if there is still some life in these boxes.

My original denatured alcohol is Klean-Strip Green Denatured Alcohol which says 95% on the package. However, today I could only find Klean-Strip Denatured Alcohol, which I assumed was the same. The MSDS for the 95% product shows 80-90% ethanol and only < 5% methanol. The version I bought is 30-50% ethanol and 40-60% methanol. Both have the same intended use.

Is the plain Denatured Alcohol I bought today fine to use in my alcohol lamp or is the higher concentration of methanol an issue?

Methanol, ethanol. And isopropyl will all work in an alcohol lamp
