Microwave is working
    #25547145 - 10/18/18 11:27 AM (6 years, 2 months ago)

Fully colonized small amount of brf inoculated with canadian wild oyster grains microwave sterilization on the brf, have more going from the microwave been very successful with microwave on agar and brf so far, brown stuff is marijuana leaves and this mix has some mashed potato flakes in it, next mixtures are going to have bark in them.

Might have taken it out a little early but it should be fine I have others going... This was not shaken all the grains were placed on top.

The nice thing with microwave sterilization is that there are more plastics that can be used. The list I have is:

  • E-CTFE
  • ETFE
  • FEP
  • HDPE
  • LDPE
  • PC
  • PFA
  • PMP/TPX
  • PP
  • PTFE
  • PVE

How do you limit moisture loss?

Lids are partially open which makes most of it stay in and the recipe gets slightly more water but not much.

Also, I can fit 9 in my microwave of that size and it only takes about 3-5 minutes to do the process I've been doing which is like one minute to warm them up (good microwave) then 3 runs at 30 seconds each giving a 30 second cooldown between runs or so.

I was feeling them to make sure they were getting really hot (verm is supposed to get really hot in microwave), but wouldnt try to test them too much because I might ruin the plastic at that heat.

All of my agars are microwaved some are fully colonized sporeplates
https://imgur.com/a/xjJnQvI

This enoki on the agar recipe I can easily make when I need to but doesnt seem as effective as the recipe I started using looks promising, took quite a few that failed this is looking like it just might be myc not mold. It's on a dish "sterilized/recycled" with peroxide.

Not to rain on the parade...I'm happy you got some promising results, but microwave sterilization is really not a good idea....

So far the microwave part seems to be 100%, the open hood cardboard sab (and working with wilds, trying to drown them in peroxide without water bathing afterwards etc) seems to be the majority of the problem buying the filtered mask should help work in this environment.

Recycled the plates for a couple hundred pours and done that in the past few weeks in total more than likely recycling the few I have which is about 70 plates and 40 containers. So far the microwave part seems to be 100%.

Getting a pc in a couple months for real canning purposes (garden cabbage/peppers etc next year im going to have many hydro trays) and will probably use it to deal with jars themselves, as the microwave I want to have a large set of plastics for the microwave I recycle and use the pc for maybe bulk grains or something. Most of my agar work will probably stay in the microwave unless I need to move it to pc which I have had plates go months without contams on fresh plates no peroxide recycling from microwave sterilization.

In the past I've done many spore syringes from the microwaved water/sterilized shotglass with 100% success rates pretty much.

The cultures are the priority and my blackberry plates with purple agar poured into normal petris look solid.

SRR LC to brf and and artist conk agar to brf all of it microwaved, lcs, agars, syringes, and brfs. Hard to get a pic of the srr, the container fell over in the sab and much of it formed a wet glob of myc at the top of the container that rolled around and now seems huge and stuck in place, going to transfer this to many plates when I fruit the cake as this was my first transfer from the dish to the lc before I took any petri selections from that dish.

This will fail on you soon enough.

Why don't you microwave sub for something not stupidly fast, like Ps. Semperviva?

Are you recycling plates by just cleaning them out a bit (with/out peroxide), pouring fresh agar in and microwaving the plates?

I'm genuinely curious to see more details on what you're doing! :P

Going to look more into silver peroxide as its labelled as a sterilant.

Clean the plates if its got something like mold spores in it badly use dish soap and clean it decently well since spores are sticky. Drop into your peroxide tub. swish them around in the peroxide and remove them upside down letting peroxide run out.

This works. Adding in a step afterwards with sterile water to remove all peroxide is what i'm currently tinkering with before I do a writeup on it, ive altered the water and have a good feeling about it.
