I don't want to give up on it yet but I believe you're correct. Mine seems to be pretty low on nutes. I tried a few LC's straight to BK that never colonized but I still feel there's something here to work with. When I'm back on top of my game with clean spawn I'm giving it another crack but probably pasteurized with dung lovers.

Nice write up. You've obviously used it a few times.
I've searched for Black Kow many times over the years with no success. Nobody seems to carry it up here in Canada, even the big box stores that sell it in the States don't seem to have it up here. Unless there's a fellow Canadian that has been able to find it?
Up here you can find big 5kg blocks of coir equal to 8 bricks for $9.99 Canadian at Home Hardware. Can't complain at all about the price of coir at that rate. Store bought horse manure is almost impossible to find as well if anybody has a line on that as well. You can find a hook up for local stuff by the truck load fairly easily on Kijiji, which will likely be my ticket. They're all just so far away from me.

That is cheap on the choir, Somebody did some reading to find this, lol. Well I took a bk hiatus cause I was have boxes dry to fast. But thanks to tryp, and nube, I took their advice and I now run modded tubs, which is way better,IMHNO. So here's a teaser pics, and I shall return with more. well maybe in the thread.

I will have to bring my A game now that people are watching! Lol. So I've got 5 boxes going right now. All modified, 2-40qt,3-30qt tubs, all roughly 1:2 spawn ratio. I had to thaw out a bag of bk, Ive taken a different approach, I checked to see how moist it is, this bag seemed wetter, so I added verm until it felt better. I just put the bk in a tub and mix by hand. Thats about it fer now. Thanks for all the support everyone!!
Oh yeah almost forgot, got some ape coming soon! Poopdicks baby!

It surprises me that you can do it without pasteurizing at all, as well as that you're needing to dry it further by adding verm. I wouldn't expect a bag of manure to come at or above field capacity.

they have varied, quite a bit, I have gotten them near bone-dry, to almost clumpy wet, shit you can ball up and throw. I think how they are stored, and whether or not they are in the elements, sun, rain, etc. Im becoming more picky so Im altering it now for best field capacity, or what I perceive that to be. All my bags froze so Im slowly thawing them out as I use them. But normally I never did anything to it, besides mix it a little. Shits nice, I just took a little break cause I was having drying sub issues, got that fixed I think so I should be pumping out some shit soon,

Is your ape a slow colonizer? I've got some going and it's super slow.

I've heard it can be slow, mine are Pt's and were knocked up with wedge on 1/30, I would say thats slower than some, but I have had b+ take its sweet time too, and there's prep quality to consider. If it looks healthy, Im happy! lol.

It's painter's tape, I had trouble with duct tape so I do the micropore, then the painters tape, which peels off super easy.

I have a couple P Bisporus boxes going on BK now. Spawned on 2/17. 1 is 1:1 BKV the other is 1:2 BKV/CV. Still have 4 more myco qts of P. Bis spawn that'll be ready in a few days. Trying a few different combinations.
My BK bag was frozen solid and when I thawed a block out of the bag it was a little muddy. Added 2 qts of verm to about 8 qts of BK and pasteurized.

I emailed the company and asked them if there was anybody in the provinces of British Columbia or Alberta, Canada that sells their product and I got this back:
"_____, thank you for your email and your interest in our Black Kow. Sorry to say that our Black Kow is not available in those areas. Perhaps in the future we will expand and can service your gardening needs."
So apparently my search was in vain and you won't find Black Kow at least in Western Canada.

Painters tape!!! That thought crossed my mind a few times! yeah micropore is a pain in the arss to get off ( I'm gonna try painters too!
by the way I tried your suggestion! I just spawned some grains in the freshly opened bag of cow compost! without taking out anything or pasteurizing it, I figured like you said if it doesn't go bad or moldt in the bag being left outside in the gardening store section exposed to any kind of weather for so long then chances are good mycelium can colonize it!
so far its looking promising! 3 days in!
