Might cannabis cause seizures?

I believe in rare cases Cannabis/THC can cause seizures but only in certain people. Meanwhile cannabis/cbd are amazing for treating seizures in many other people, so it's sort of a mixed bag.

But no, the vast majority of people getting stoned are never going to have a siezure. Alcohol is probably 100x more likely to lead to seizures when overused. And benzos seem even worse.

yeah. i've seen it happen once, when I was a teenager. kid was hitting a blunt and just fell out and started seizing up. he probably had a seizure disorder though

There may be evidence suggesting the can trigger seizures. I doubt it though. My friend is epileptic and a huge pot head. Alcohol is the only thingy that triggered it for him.

I've seen it. Saw a kid plant and grind his face into asphalt, arms and legs like a plank of wood. Also saw a girl seize up. Heard of another girl seizing up after smoking weed. It happens a lot actually.

Take home nessage: weed can cause seizures in people who are susceptible

A lot of people knock themselves out if they take a big bong hit then stand up and exhale. That combo can readily cause a loss of blood pressure to the brain. People will fall over, jerking  in a way that  looks like a seizure. myoclonus due to acute hypoxia.

back when I was a teenager we use to get people who wanted to try weed to smoke an insane amount cause thats what we did, they would turn green and get sick, never saw a seizure though

Cannabis is used extremely successfully for treating epilepsy, so I'm going with a strong no.

I've seen idiots pass out or fall over twitching from trying to force a huge bong rip or the such, but never a seizure.

The seizures described by my friends are mini seizures that bystanders might not notice at all. Actually from what they said, it doesn't happen as a result of having just smoked weed but usually happens when they're falling asleep. They might have a sudden involuntarily movement like their leg twitching or they might bite their tongue accidentally.

One time at college we were smoking in my bathroom and one of our friends just straight fell over backwards and crushed my trash can.

He never did buy me a new one but maybe it was a seizure.

Are you sure? Or just everyone who has used cannabis? Would be interesting to compare before and after like before someone actually started using cannabis.

Maybe high THC cannabis does this whereas CBD has the opposite effect? I find all this really interesting because I don't think it has been investigated scientifically before and there seems to be a pattern reported by friends who like their weed. And these days high THC strains seem to be the norm.

It's called a hypnic jerk, and 70% of people have reported it happening to them at one time or another.



If it's any consolation, I remembered this shit happening to me a few time when I was younger (and had never smoked weed), but in the past 4ish years, where I've been smoking more than ever before in my life, it hasn't happened.

I notice dogs also twitch and jerk during sleep so it isn't just a human thing.

I gave a girl a single beer once, which she probably had a few sips of. And then gave her a few hits off a joint and she seized out. Came back to in a couple of minutes, was freaky. Years later we reconnected and went ghost hunting we went burn cruising and to my surprise, she was driving. Lol

Epilepsy is super complex. I had my first seizure at 30, and have been trying to get to the bottom of it for over a year. I havent driven in this time.

Flashing lights do not trigger episodes.  The only thought I have is that partying too hard will lower the threshold until I get tipped over.  Which is ironic, as it's the cleanest I've ever been, compared to my younger years.  My neurologist says it can start at any time, I'm not buying it.

Recently, a nodule was discovered on my thyroid, still waiting on biopsy results.
The thyroid regulates hormones.  Seizures are dictated by an imbalance of hormones. Hopefully I'm on to something.

I dont smoke like I used to, an occasional dab here and there, none of which have ever triggered a seizure. But everyone is different.
